Hello Peter and Welcome,

If you have not already done so, please subscribe to the documentation
team mailing list documentation+subscr...@global.libreoffice.org, which
is where we communicate and discuss all matters related the the
LibreOffice documentation and Help production.

Being an open source volunteer project we do not assign tasks to
contributors. We ask them to look for aspects of the various sections of
the LibreOffice documentation where they believe their skills may be
usefully employed. As a general rule (not law) we discuss with or advise
the other team members what we wish to work on via the mailing list.
This often produces useful feedback or guidance for new contributors.

If you would like to speak with our "Slave Driver" :)) oops I mean "Team
Leader" Olivier Hallot and some other regular members of the docs team,
we hold a bi-weekly on line team meeting:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Meetings

The contributor guides are currently in a state of flux, but you should
find sufficient information about joining the team in the "Help produce
documentation" section of our wiki here:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation

Best Regards
Dave

2020-12-22 Thread Peter Heijink

Hi reader,

I'm a satisfied user of LO, since seven years now. Focus on base and
programming macros, some of them written in python.

The question of this mail is:

 * can you assign me to the right team / tasks?

 * is the contribution driven by the needs of the documentation team,
or can initiatives of the volunteer  be granted as well?

I noticed that (base) python programming is less abundant, in usage and
documentation. I'm willing to contribute and add documentation on this
subject.

Regarding skills, i am 64, retired and not educated as a programmer,
though with a background in engineering and some programming languages.

Looking forward to what you believe can be a suitable area to work on.

kind regards peter heijink

I'll set this up for you. You will receive an email with details.

The usual procedure is that the writer (in this case, probably me) revises
the file and makes it available for further review. You're welcome to look
at it again or not, as you prefer. As a new member of the team, it's
probably useful for you to look at it again to see the writer's responses.

The Style Guide is out of date regarding style usage and probably other
topics. Questions should be addressed to the list. In many cases there are
no answers, only opinions.

Many people are on the mailing list, but AFAICT only 2 or 3 are actively
working on user guides. Others are more involved with the online help, and
there are lots of translators who are not native speakers of English.
Olivier is paid; everyone else AFAIK is an unpaid volunteer. I am in
Australia. Hazel is in the UK (I think). Olivier is in Brasil.

- How many people are subscribed to the mailing list? Are there
guidelines for using it? That is, should I write message like this to the

Please write to the list instead of to me or others personally. That way
others can answer questions if we're not around. I have no idea how many
people are subscribed.

Thank you for whatever information you can provide.
As background, I'm a retired technical writer and editor. I was team leader
and very involved for many years but have cut back on my participation
(hence the out of date style guide and other materials). AFAIK most other
team members come from a variety of other backgrounds.

Hi Jean,

Thank you. This is what I wanted.

I have started to review the chapters and should warn you that there
will probably be a number of comments for you to look over. Nearly all
would be minor issues of formatting and clarity.

As someone still trying to figure out Libreoffice, I hope that I can
bring a fresh perspective that would be challenging for people with
expert knowledge.

It would be great if you could tell me a little about the documentation
team. About how many people are involved? Are they mostly technical

By the way, if you are Jean Weber, is Hazel Russman an alias?

Thanks again.

Libreoffice documentation.

It looks like the agenda for today's meeting could be useful for me.
However, I have a scheduling conflict and will probably not be able to
join you.

The program I have the most experience with is Writer (although I still
have a lot to learn about it). It would probably make sense to start
with documentation related to that.

Reviewing draft text would be a good way for me to begin. Olivier has
already pointed me to some documentation resources but it would be
helpful to have a sense of how to start. Thoughts?

I look forward to learning from you.

Cathy

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] New member

Hi Marina,

I will create an account for you shortly on ODFAuthors. Unfortunately, we
have a problem with creating new users on the website at the moment (tested
~ 1 hour ago by me), so I cannot do it right away.

Once we've created the account for you you will get an email with a link to
set your password.
I hope, we can fix this issue soon. ;)

Best regards,
Sigrid

 Hi all,
I'm Marina Latini an Italian contributor.
I'm graduated in computer science and I work in the LibreOffice division
of Studio Storti, an Italian company member of the advisory board. My work
is mainly focused on migration and training and usually I write
documentations and slides in Italian so I would like to join the
 Documentation Team.

Can I have an account on ODF Authors? My old one was deneb but now it's
 inactive and I can't access.

 Best regards,
 Marina
