Re: [libreoffice-documentation] REMIND: Documentation team call is today at 18:00 UTC

2022-06-09 Thread Olivier Hallot

Hi Peter

Thanks for leading this topic.

Advancing one of my remarks:

On captions of small images (e.g. couple of icons) or tall and thin
images (vertical toolbars) the caption text often flows vertically too
(because the caption is bounded by the image outer frame). That look bad
and IMHO the caption (actually the outer frame) should be wider to
prevent excessive reflow of the caption text. A rule-of-thumb may be to
let the caption have 2 lines at most, and not not exceed X % of the
image width (X to be defined).

OK Olivier

I will create a new template using the old as a base.

All paragraphs, except Headings, will be set to “Do not split paragraph”. Will
add information about what paragraph and sentence length should be used with
this option selected.

Will also add info about bullet list and numbered items.

Give me a few days and my proposal for a new template will appear in the
contributor resources folder on NextCloud.

Hello Olivier

I am open to change the meeting time and week day, if that helps you to
participate, which will be fantastic.

1. I am willing to continue updating the Impress and Draw guides to 7.4 and
beyond. Not sure yet if it really will be necessary to update to 7.4. Need to
test the beta LO 7.4 against the user guides to see what has changed.

You know you can have the list of improvements in the release notes, right? The
list may be just empty if nothing was added to Impress or Draw or nothing to
add to the guide if an improvement does not show to the user (e.g. performance,
code refactoring, corner-case bug fix...)

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/7.4

2. The LO chapter template needs to be updated to help reduce the formatting
errors that can occur when preparing user guides for publication. I did send
out an email recently with a few suggestions. Would appreciate some feedback
and ideas. I can easily update the styles and add a few instructions to help
our willing volunteers.

Yes I agree with your remarks in the other mail (sorry to take time to comment)
and I suggest we add these remarks into a new ODT file (and later mutated to
template V 8.0) in the /Contributor Resource/ folder.

I also have my own remarks too.

Hello Olivier

Cannot attend the meeting.

However, the Draw Guide update to 7.2 is going well

Now updating Chapter 9.
The Draw Guide update should be finished early January 2022 depending on how
quick the updated chapters are reviewed.

2021-02-04 Thread Peter Schofield
Hello Olivier and the doc team

I cannot attend the meeting as an evening time is not convenient.

I am doing the final edit on all the chapters of the Impress Guide and then
publishing the finished chapters. This should be finished next week and I shall
then create the Impress Guide and publish.

After the Impress Guide, I shall start updating the Draw Guide to Version 7.1.

2021-01-07 Thread Steve Fanning

All,

Many apologies but I cannot attend the meeting due to another arrangement.

Two points might be worthy of note:

1. Google have advised that we successfully completed both of our
   Calc-related GSOD20 projects (see
   https://developers.google.com/season-of-docs/docs/participants).
2. I have started work on updating Chapter 13 of the Calc Guide, as
discussed at the last team meeting. First step is to move the macro
code from the chapter to the wiki (see entries 020 to 025 in the
   table on https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Macros/Calc) and this
   is still in progress.

Regards,

Steve Fanning

2020-12-17 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hello Peter

As far as I know there is no limit nor specific recommendations for
saving space. But of course resources have limits and costs. Good usage
is welcome.

That said, Nextcloud has an internal recycle bin mechanism that keep
deleted files in bin and start purging older bin contents when quota
approaches defined limits.

So you can take whatever screenshot you need and store in the best way
for the Guides.

Olivier

2020-12-17 Thread Peter Schofield
Hello Olivier

Need to know if we are going to store images on NextCloud and in what format.
That is PNG and/or ODG format.
I take screenshots for user guides and use PNG format. Any editing is done in
Draw and I save an ODG version of image as well as PNG format.

Chapter 2 of the Contributors’ Guide mentions storing images used. Whatever
decision is made at the team meeting will appear in Chapter 2.

Do we have a limit on storage space on NextCloud? Images can consume storage
space easily.

Not sure if I will be at the team meeting, but you know my thoughts.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] REMIND: Documentation team call is today at 18:00 UTC

2020-12-17 Thread Steve Fanning

Hi Olivier,

Unfortunately I cannot attend the meeting because of a prior commitment.

With regards to your proposals about "Editorial on Calc Guide Chap 13";
I agree wholeheartedly that the macros in this chapter are likely to be
beyond the knowledge and interest of most readers. Also, as you are
aware, I have done some work under the GSOD20 project to improve the
information available about Calc's database functions and it might be
good to include some of that material in the Calc Guide.

I would be happy to carry out, or participate in, a review and
subsequent update of this chapter.

I would recommend that we don't lose the macro-related content
completely but maybe we could find a home for it somewhere in the wiki.

Regards,

Steve

Hi All,

I have a conflict with the meeting today. I may be able to join toward
the end but that may not be possible.

I looked at the documentation pad and see that Steve has the same
concern I do about indexing. It would be helpful to know if chapters
other than ours were indexed.
