RE: [DQSD-Users] half searches

*or* the search can be performed by calling gg (or whatever search engine
you wish) like 'gg half blah blah blah...' to avoid letting the toolbar
interpret which search is being called..

 Jim,

You can also disable the searches you don't use by unchecking the checkbox
in the help window. DQSD won't recognize the words as searches, and will
just treat them as regular words (and search for them with google).

  Hi Jim,

It is policy to avoid 'real' words (
http://www.dqsd.net/faq.htm#Searches ), but new contributors (myself
included) have managed to submit searches with common words or
abbreviations. We're working to correct these as time permits. Changes
for many will be available in the next release.

If you feel up to it, you can modify the half.xml file yourself to
have it named something like hlf.xml (be sure to edit the content of
the xml file as well to change the function reference and the function
  name).

Do you have a list of which ones need changing? I might have some time
to burn on renaming and testing them.

RE: [DQSD-Users] half searches

2003-11-03 Thread Shawn K. Hall
Hi Dean,

Do you have a list of which ones need changing? I might
have some time to burn on renaming and testing them.

In my opinion, these need renamed:

alarm, ascii, bio, brit, chap, configure, dir, dns, email
faq, half, is, mac, multi, php, rfc, rgb, rss, run, sams
  shack, so, timer, ul, wa

Most because they are known/common terms - I've found myself having
problems searching for other things using most of them, and the others
I could see myself having issues.

I think a naming convention should be used to name searches so that
common words could be used with little modification. Something like
appending q to the search (alarm becomes alarmq). s is a
plural form so would cause more problems, and z is a typical
mis-spelling, so it would also potentially be a search term. I think
q is the only one that seems both applicable and reasonable (except
it's far from the center of the keyboard - but hey, beggars and
all...).

RE: [DQSD-Users] half searches

2003-11-03 Thread Monty Scroggins
Dean,

Please remember to rename the function name to match the search name if you
rename any of these.. Just like the search names, the function names have
to be unique, and to ensure this is the case, there has been a guideline
that the function name match the search name.

As far as the suggestion of using a q appended to the searches, you might
have some resistance in getting this idea agreed to.. I had some negative
feedback in the past when i attempted to rename some of the searches to make
the names intuitive. (I have a problem with the really short 2 char search
names..) Even though the searches could be aliased to a 2 char string..
The point is that if you are suggesting that the user might have to type an
extra character or two, it might not be warmly received...

Monty

[DQSD-Users] dqsd form basics.

2003-11-03 Thread Anthony Rivera
Does anyone have a good example of using dqsd to populate a form and submit it. I would like to pass the form values thru the toolbar like so, but i don't know where to start.

formname field1info field2info field3info

There is also atime field that it listed on the form, I was hoping to have that autopopulate also without me typing it in.

If anyone has a simple example of this, would really appreciate it.

Thanks
Anthony
