RE: [DQSD-Users] Regionalisation
Hello World, hello continent, hello country, hello region To follow up on what has just been said, I just had a look at the functions built into my favorite (addition to BillyTheG.os-gui). Many of them refer to utilities that are not very relevant to me, sitting behind a desk in Bern Switzerland, such astravel information, weather forecast, news, shopping, people and places, ... which are very much US oriented (you didn't notice ? (:-) ). It would be nice if a) it were possible to substitute or combine with available lists our own URLs, b) if we could pool ressources to put together the content of such lists/files. What is the best wayto go about this, as I have no time to learn the inner of DQSD, but can contribute interesting (at least to me) URLs ? Ren PS. I've re-installed the latest, latest version and it runs fine. Thanks for the answers from you guys. Two comments: 1. I'd like to be able to set up a user profile that is mostly country specific, say countrycode="uk", but not entirely. For instance, use ebay.uk, yahoo.uk, holidays.uk but google.com (US). Is it possible? 2. One logical next step after this functionality is added is to translate dqsd into other languages, I mean a localization project. "John W. Bairen, Jr." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: Nice idea, Pete. This is something I've setup on my DQSD and thought others would like to try out. The idea is to addsome international functionality to the search engines. for example have gguse www.google.de instead if a preference.js countrycode="de". This could alsobe linked to the holiday.de.xml My concept is to add a folder called "intsearches" in the "Quick Seach Deskbar" folder. inside here would reside searches with a naming convention such as .us.xml and .ca.xml, etc... a minor change to loader.js can add the searches that match the countrycode. the attached doc has more details if you're interested or checkout my website at: http://www.metrocast.net/~peteh/toolbar.html Thanks for the time, Pete Do You Yahoo!?Yahoo! 1 more thing. When I reload with the ! Set up on my win2000 machine at work was a breeze. On my win98 se machine at home, however, it's been impossible. Here's what I've done: 1. I download the 3.1 file from the notesbydave.com - no problem 2. Clicked on the downloaded file to install it - says it installed. 3. Go to taskbar, right click on 'Add Quick Search' - still no problem 4. Then if I try to do any search, I get: An error ([object Error]/Object expected) occurred while trying to run the search gg() 5. When I click on the right facing symbol, it only shows Help/About and Check for Update. The other 12 or so categories and previous searches are not listed. When I click on check for update, I get a message saying: Unable to check for update. Check your internet connection. But the internet connection is fine. 6. I tried the alternate method of installation that dave recommends for win98 (pointing to notesbydave.com) but that didn't work either. 7. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling, as well as reinstalling the 3.0 version. I've tried turning Active Desktop on and off. I've typed in the ! character to rebuild. No luck. I'm running updated versions of win98 and ie 5.5 Anyone have any ideas? __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance - Get real-time stock quotes http://finance.yahoo.com __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! [DQSD-Users] RE: Welcome to the Dqsd-users mailing list (Digest mode)
I was very pleased to stumble across DQSD this morning. I love the program, and also the user community that has developed around it. I'm a philosopher, and I've created searches for the two high-quality net encyclopedias of philosophy. If appropriate, please consider them for inclusion in the Reference category. The attached files for the following searches: IEP - searches the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy. This one has more entries, but they are shorter and not as detailed as SEP. SEP - searched the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. This one has fewer entries, but they are longer and more detailed than IEP. Both search engines return articles of reasonably high quality in case you ever have a philosophical question! All the best, Andy. Try uninstalling the googlespell add-on (with the uninstall.exe in the addons\googlespell subdir), pulling the version on SF, and then re-installing. I may have updated that version that's on SF shortly _after_ you downloaded the initial version. (I'm bad about doing that.)
