Re: [DQSD-Users] javascript error in search.htm (XP)

2003-11-12 Thread Alex Golub
Thanks to all for the help - I do appreciate it.

I still am unable to get DQSD working (on my W2K box at home it works
fine). Here's what I did:

1. Uninstall DQSD from the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel
2. Restart machine.
3. Throw away \Program Files\DQSD
4. Install MS Scripting Additions.
5. Install DQSD
Sure enough, the MS Scripting stuff didn't make a difference - as,
indeed, Glenn said it wouldn't ;)
So then I:

1. Uninstall DQSD from the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel
2. Restart machine.
3. Throw away \Program Files\DQSD
4. Start up IE and tell it to be the default browser (to make sure all
'default browser' entries are reset to normal).
5. Start up Firebird .7 and tell it to be the default browser.
6. Run SetBrowser. I tell it to set the browser to Netscape (not IE or
Opera/Other).
7. Select the Firebird executable.
8. Install DQSD
9. I get the same javascript error and, hence, no DQSD

Firebird .7 has no option - AFAIK - to 'ask to be made default browser
at startup' . Since the documentation suggests this is an important
step, perhaps this is an issue?

So just for fun I told IE to be my default browser, used SetBrowser to
make IE my default browser, then used the 'restore original websettings'
button on Internet Options >> Program Tab in IE. THEN I tried DQSD
(without un- and re-installing) and it STILL didn't work.

Is this some sort of awful idiosyncracy on my part? Can anyone out there
confirm that they have a successful install of DQSD runing XP and
Firebird .7? I use the program so often at work, it Is Suck to not have
it up and running at home

Thanks again for all the help,
-A

I know that it doesn't make sense that you should have to do this on an
XPsp1 machine, but I've seen it work in the past.

Subject: [DQSD-Users] javascript error in search.htm (XP)

Hi folks,

Hope you can help. Downloaded and installed DQSD just fine. Search box
appears in the taskbard, but when I try a search I get an IE error box
that reads "An error has occurred in the script on this page, line 76
char 5, unspecified error - would you like to continue to run scripts on
this page?" Clicking either yes or no closes the window, and I get no
search result. What's going on?
-Line 76 char 5 is a bit of commented-out code describing default
keybindings in DQSD. Can't see any obvious typos on the code that comes
both before and after it :)
-My default browser is Firebird 0.7 (I know there are issues with DQSD
honoring the default browser, but right now I'm more concerned just to
get a search result at all).
-I'm running XP SP1

-I've not monkeyed with any pref files.

Anyone else ecountered this problem? I have a feeling I'm missing
something obvious - but what?
thanks in advance,
-A

Have you tried hitting F6? For some unknown reason it works for me -
though it may take a couple of smacks for it to take effect.

Re: [DQSD-Users] Google's deskbar and miniviewer

2003-11-12 Thread Maxim Siefer
Have you tried PractiSearch (http://practisearch.com)? It is all about
shortcuts. You can send the selected text to the search bar with a hotkey
from any app or even immediately start searching this text just with
pressing another hotkey (e.g. Ctrl+C+C) or clicking a mouse button. The
hotkeys are configurable. It is also browser independent, however most of
the features are possible only with IE. The interface also allows to easily
add custom searches or adjust the settings.

Best regards,
Max
