Re: [DQSD-Users] DQSD - XP Pro ServicePack2 compatibility problem resolved?
Thanks Shawn, I tried it a month ago but when I saw that warning it looked like I HAD to opt to allow activeX. Because I don't understand activeX and there are so many warnings about it, as much as I love DQSD I uninstalled it. Kerry XP Pro ServicePack2 iRider Thunderbird Shawn K. Hall wrote: Hi Kerry, Has the DQSD - XP Pro ServicePack2 compatibility problem been solved yet? It will not run without security warnings in this release. You will need to click okay on a warning dialog when it first initializes, but most of the rest of the functionality should work out of the box now. We anticipate the 4.0 release negating the need for this extra click. Regards, Shawn K. Re: [DQSD-Users] Can I have Merriam Webster be the default dict?
Thanks Shawn, : wordtobedefined worked great, however, even though the MW site came up with the word defined I also got a desktop message DQSD failed to parse on-line version information. Error message: The download of the specific resource has failed. And, now when I single, dbl, or right click on the the tool tray expands and I can't get the DQSD menu but I can get the calendar by right clicking in the search field . The day and date shows fine. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Kerry XP Pro Shawn K. Hall wrote: Hi Kerry, Is there a way to have Merriam Webster be the default dictionary - it has free pronunciation. You can control DQSD just about any way you could want. To override any existing search with another you just create an alias that overwrites the existing mapping. Add this to localaliases.txt, on it's own line: dic|mwd %s This will change the behavior of dic to search the Merriam Webster instead. HOWEVER, you can also shorten that a bit by using the default shorter search alias for MW of :. Try this in DQSD (note the preceeding colon): :whatever Regards, Shawn K. Title: Message Thanks JB: Where in the localalias.txt do I add wmd | dict | Merriam Webster | Dictionary ? I tried adding it to the examples at the bottom of the page but no luck. But you should **only** add your own custom aliases to localaliases.txt file in the same location (otherwise the aliases.txt will get overwritten on upgrade and you'll lose your aliases). JB Where do I find the instructions on how to make an "alias?"

Kerry, You would add something like the following to its own line in localaliases.txt: d|wmd %s|Merriam Webster|Merriam Webster Online Dictionary|Reference\Language where the format is as follows:alias|action|title|description|category So in my example above d would be whatI typed to invoke the search. So entering the following in DQSD would launch a Merriam Webster dictionary search for octogenarian: d octogenarian After you make this entry in localaliases.txt and save it, you must reload DQSD by entering ! in the text box. Make sense? Also FYI: any line beginning with // tells the program to ignore the rest of the line because what follows is a comment for documentation purposes. JB Where in the localalias.txt do I add

You can just put your entry at the end of the file... it will work fine.. Is , Configure , Reload the same as entering 1 or I or | or ! in the text box? In other words, I can't tell what the character DQSD by entering ! in the text box. is so I pressed Configure Reload. Hmm I don't totally understand the question about entering 1 or I, but what you want to do is enter an exclaimation point (!) in the toolbar and press return.I believe it is the same thing as selecting reload from the menu. Also, am I correct that I would always have to include the prefix d ? If so, it's not much different than what works now = : octogenaria In fact, d or : saves a step, as I don't have to mouse the to get to dictionary.com or Merriam. Yes, ':', 'd', or 'mwm' would all call the Merriam Webster search. The aliases just lets you call them what you wish. --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials Free Linux tutorial presented by Daniel Robbins, President and CEO of GenToo technologies.
