[DQSD-Users] Version 4 Backspace key issue REDUX

2007-09-18 Thread Steven Bellamy

Windows XP SP2

Ok guys I have got it.

After seven re-installs I have *finally* ,without a doubt, found the problem
with Deskbar version 4.

Install and DQSD version 4 works fine.

Now go open display menu, choose desktop tab, customize desktop tab, web tab
and then select to show #8216;my current home page#8217; (or any other file)
Exit and try DQSD

DQSD version 4 no longer allow backspace

Now turn off desktop display and all is well.

Repeatable bug.

Any help appreciated.

[DQSD-Users] Wikipedia search

2007-02-13 Thread Steven Bellamy

Thanks Glenn.

I really wish I could get your highlight and search
technique to work. So
far nothing happens. I have carefully edited the reg
file to include the
path to the search HTML but after I install the reg,
restart and then right
click in the browser I don't see anything about
Wikipedia. I must be doing
something wrong. Has anyone else had this problem.

Steven,

You might also want to check out some tools here[1]
that should work with
IE/Avante. I haven't tried any yet. I *am* really
liking being able to
search Wikipedia for selected text now... thanks for
the good idea!

 Steven,

 Here's a quick-n-dirty solution with some script...

http://www.dqsd.net/misc/SearchWikipediaContextMenu.zip

 There are two files...
 - search_wikipedia.html
 - search_wikipedia_ie_context_menu.reg

The .reg file adds a context menu item Search
Wikipedia to Internet
Explorer when you have text selected in the browser.
 I've only tested
this on XP, but it appears to work ok with Avante
and IE.

 Installation...
 - Extract the files to some directory
 - Edit the .reg file and correct the path to the
extracted .html file.
I.e., if you extracted the files to C:\Documents
and
 Settings\Glenn\My Documents\search_wikipedia.html,
change the path in
the .reg to C:\\Documents and Settings\\Glenn\\My
Documents\\search_wikipedia.html
 - Double click the .reg file to make the changes in
the registry.
 - You'll need to restart any open browser windows.
 - With Avante I had to create an popup exception
rule for *wikipedia*
 windows.

Anyway, it probably could be improved, but it seems
to work pretty well.

 Windows XP
 Avant Browser

Not strictly DQSD but as this list has most of the
'search' and 'lookup'
gurus on it I hope you will allow this.

I want to be able to highlight text in my browser
and then right click
and search Wikipedia for the highlighted text.

Wikipedia has problems but for my purpose (checkable
facts and
figures) it's perfect. I find myself typing 'wik etc
etc' into DQSD
constantly.

Any thoughts on how I can make the link to and
search on Wikipedia as
 smooth as possible.

 Thanks

[DQSD-Users] RC2 and Avant + backspace key issues

2007-01-12 Thread Steven Bellamy
A couple of things that I have just come up against.

1 - Using Avant browser - Since version 38 Avant does a LOCKDOWN key change and
does not allow you to switch it off. If you delete the key it puts itself back
in . It's broken my office start page which uses active desktop. Of course it
effects DQSD because any search launched from DQSD calls Avant and boom the
system locks up.

2- installed DQSD RC2 but I can't use my backspace key to delete entries in the
search bar. Pressing backspace has no effect. I think I mentioned this during
the Beta. Is this just me?

Anyway I hope this lockdown problem is fixed.

Thanks

[DQSD-Users] Youtube Search

2006-11-22 Thread Steven Bellamy
I wonder if anyone has thought of a Youtube search facility.
I find myself thinking of new uses for Youtube almost daily and it would be
really helpful to have such a search available on DSQD.
Thanks
