RE: [DQSD-Users] (no subject)

2002-08-29 Thread SGP
I agree, nice idea, Pete. Two comments:
1. I'd like to be able to set up a user profile that is mostly country specific, say countrycode="uk", but not entirely. For instance, use ebay.uk, yahoo.uk,  holidays.uk but google.com (US). Is it possible?
2. One logical next step after this functionality is added is to translate dqsd into other languages, I mean a localization project.

I'd like to submit an idea to everyone.  This is something I've setup on my DQSD and thought others would like to try out.

The idea is to add some international functionality to the search engines.  for example have gg use www.google.de instead if a preference.js countrycode="de". This could alsobe linked to the holiday.de.xml

My concept is to add a folder called "intsearches" in the "Quick Seach Deskbar" folder.  inside here would reside searches with a naming convention such as .us.xml and .ca.xml, etc...  a minor change to loader.js can add the searches that match the countrycode.

the attached doc has more details if you're interested or checkout my website at: http://www.metrocast.net/~peteh/toolbar.html

RE: [DQSD-Users] (no subject)

2002-05-29 Thread Daniel Martin

The Search function built in Windows can search 1,300 MSWord.doc files with
no problem.

In Windows 2000 and XP, you'll find it at:
Start >> Search >> For Files or Folders
Put your search criteria in the field marked "Containing Text" (the most
important step)
Define the folder in field marked "Look in:"
Press "Search Now"

In Windows 95, 98, Me:
Same as above, except you need to go to the "Advanced Search" Tab on the
search window.

The real issue is performing this 13,000 times for 13,000 different words.
The only way I can possibly imagine searching for any of 13,000 words is
through a program - of just about any language. It's definitely not a task
for a search engine.

Hope that helps,
Dan

I have a project that requires me to search for 13,000 text items within
1,300 MSWord.doc files (located in a single folder). The text items are in
an Excel sheet. Is the search engine equiped to define the search location
to a desktop and to auto search a list and document its findings to a table?

I know it is much to ask

Thank You
