Folks,
I've got a problem here that's worrying me because I don't know what to do and
Sweepstakes is coming up. After tuning up on a band - sometimes using the
transmatch, sometimes not - I'll get SWR readings on the transceiver that jump
around from SWR HI to 1.0:1. Rig is feeding my
Fellow Drakesters, i'm just wondering if anyone has replaced the clacking T/R
relay in the L-4B with something more modern/quiet?

While resetting my L-4B for 220v, I opened up the RF deck to change the jumper
settings and was - once again - struck with admiration for the engineers at
Drake who designed it and the technicians at Drake who built it. As an
erstwhile tech during the '60s, I know a work of art when I see it

thanks. I'm clear on the need to change the jumpers on the PS and the RF deck
(done that before). This sounds just like the 120v plug wiring. RE: the
comment about being surprised about what you can find under the chassis in ham
gear, that's sure true!

To recap: The wattmeter on my Palstar AT1500DT reports that I'm getting
variable output from my L-4B on dedicated 120v house circuit. On 40 it looks
like 800-900 watts out, but on 15 maybe 500. The matched 3-500Zs are about 5
years old, the power supply was rebuilt
