Hello Ken,

The 2-NB noise blanker, for the 2-C receiver, originally sold for around
$27.00 and was a plug in option. If you Google Drake 2-NB you should get a
link to Universal Radio site with a picture and description of the 2-NB.
There were not to many manufactured, so they are quite rare.

Thanks as it is something I've been wondering about for a while.

Greetings to all,
40 was in bad shape at net time as I was not able to hear
anyone! Yikes. Not sure if there even was a net today. A few signals up and
down from 7238 but mostly a flat line on the band scope at 2000 GMT.

The Findlay Hamfest was a nice weekend outing.

The weather was outstanding. I thought the attendance was down a bit, this
seems to be the trend the last few years of all the Hamfest I go to, Dayton
included. I guess it is easier to go on-line to look or list for that item.
I still enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones and especially being
able to see all the goodies first hand still makes the trip worth while.

On the Drake front there was not too many things to see, I noticed 2 TR-7's,
one T-4XC with AC-4/MS-4 ( I'll bet someone got the R-4C, hi) a TR-3 with
RV-3, a TR-4C and a PS-75. I'm sure missed some of the others. I did see
Mark WB0IQK with a smile on his face, perhaps he found a few good deals.

It is a nice hour and 45 min trip for me down 224 from Vermilion. 2-meters
and 440 were hot on the way over to Findlay. I could bring up the Hometown
UHF Repeater all the way to my parking spot at the Hamfest. Normally its a
moot point after 20 miles or so.

Cost of Gas at 3.0995$15.25 (39.8 mpg in a 94 Honda)
Hamfest Ticket$ 5.00
Lunch $ 3.50
Hamfest purchase $15.00 (12 old QST's 1943)

Don, before you rewind the transformer, make sure the core half's that fit
together are tightly secured around the transformer windings. Both half's
are held in place with a tie wraps. I've seen this get a little loose and
negative voltage falls back. If this is the problem, taking your figures
and squeeze the core half's together, the voltage comes back. If this is
the case just tighten the core half's.

Subject: [drakelist] tr7 update

I got the 3n204 replaced, and put it all back together, and began to get
some response. So I thought I would start trying the alignment procedure
once again. While adjusting the agc pot to set the s-meter, there was very
little change in level, and nowhere enough to correctly cal the s-meter.
After checking the schematic, I figured I would check the easiest things
first, which in this case there is 4 diodes, 1n4148's three of these had
very high resistance, but otherwise good.
I changed them out, re-check the agc level, and now have almost too much!!
At this point, I realized that as hacked-up as this radio is, I really
should start at the begining.
I check the PS7, voltage, ripple, all was great, couldn't be better.
I then go to the power regulator board. what a mess!!!
I removed several diy mods, replaced caps with ones of the correct values,
etc.
Now, all voltages and pb voltage adjustments off this board are good,
EXCEPT,
the neg 5v. I think there is a couple of shorted windings on the small
pcb
transformer, and about the best voltage I get from it is about -3.4, but
only when the 10v pot is set to well over 10.75v, not good.
The radio will begin to receive with 10v set correctly, but I only have
-3v, any lower and the digtial stops, and no audio. and I doubt the
alignment will ever be correct at such a low voltage.
back now to scratching my head, and trying to figure out a way to fix,
hopefully with re-winding the transformer, or having to replace the board.

I have connected the 75S-1 to both HF rcvr and HF ant with the same results,

was it connected. Also, does anyone know anything about the apparent white
wire factory mod?

[drakelist] L7 Part Needed

2005-06-04 Thread Ronald Baker
Title: L7 Part Needed

All, On the later model L7 amplifier with the black lit meters there is a piece of sheet metal that attaches to the inside front and on either side of the meters, It looks like a hood over the two meters which the 4 pilot lamps mount to, to light up the meters from the back. I am looking for this metal hood, its a single piece of metal bent and shaped to go over the meter.

Anyone on the list has a L-7 that has been parted out which has this piece?? If you have this piece

Please e-mail me directly and let me know the your price with shipping.

[drakelist] Help Identify Unknown Filter

2005-04-24 Thread Ronald Baker
Title: Help Identify Unknown Filter

All, I just received a Drake R4C receiver with a filter I can not identify. Its by Sherwood Engineering, I'm not familiar with their products, e-mailed the company a week ago but got no response, so maybe one of the Drake experts on the list may know what I have.

The filter is a Sherwood filter, model CF-2K/16, this may not be the entire model number but all I can read. The filter plugs into the back of the receiver just like the other accessory filters, but this filter is approximately 2.5 inches deep. Roughly twice as long as the standard Drake filter.

I realize its some sort of plug in filter and I have a bracket to mount it. I tried it out in my receiver and found it to have noticeably more through loss than the standard filter and it doesn't appear to be a super narrow filter either, like or CW.

Does anyone know what this filter does.
