Re: [Drakelist] Parts Needed

 Don

If you make a claim against UPS they will take the rigs back and you
will not see them again. I had this same problem with UPS and it was a
long drawn out affair lasting months. In the end I got my money back
less shipping costs, but the transceiver went into the UPS black hole.
I now refuse to have anything shipped by UPS. In fact there is a
website with many complaints posted about UPS not honoring claims
against their shipping insurance.

Good luck!

Does anyone out there happen to have some cases for the C Line?? I
got what was a pristine T4XC and R4C, but the UPS Store that packed it
didn't put enough packing to do any good at ALL. I need the top and
bottom cases for the R4C and the bottom case for the T4XC. These are
NOT slight bends, and all are in the area of the front where the metal
is folded over, negating a chance to straighten them. I am just
sick!!! Awaiting word from the seller, to see if he insured them
well, but will need to know if any cases are available.

 Larry

Here are a couple and there are others.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/delivery/ups_damage.html

http://ups.pissedconsumer.com/ups-does-not-honor-their-insurance-claims-20090803151771.html

It appears that UPS makes the standard response that the package was not
packed properly and this has happened even though the packing was done
by UPS! I think it varies from UPS outlet to outlet, some are good
others not. However, UPS corporate makes a practice of denying claims,
hence a lot of unhappy customers and websites dealing with their poor
customer response. This is what happened with the claim I was involved
with and it took six months to get them to finally pay up. I think they
use the tactic that most people will give up and go away if they stall
long enough.

I too have had issues with FedEx, but not as many as with UPS.
Surprisingly, I have had the best luck with the USPS.

Re: [Drakelist] Silent Fans

Curt

Can you give us the actual model number of this fan? I looked at Tiger
Direct and found there are several fans with this model name.

Thanks

Well..almost.
Just received and installed a Silenx IXTREMA Pro Series fan in the
TR4. Pictures are on the DrakeRadio Forum at Yahoo.

This fan is speced at an incredible 14dBA at 32CFM..this compared to
25-30 dBA or more for most $5 fans.

This one is EXTREMELY quiet. I cannot hear it running from the front
of the rig. Need to get very close to it to hear it at all. It is
WAY quieter than even the 24V fans running on 12V.

They come in variable speed with thermister sensing included or fixed
speed. I tried both. they are $13 and $11 from TigerDirect.com. The
80mm units match the final cage holes perfectly and the rubber Pin
mounts work with no screws or other holes needed.
I would not bother with the variable speed units except on solid state
rigs like the TR7 or PS7. In the tube rigs, the temp is high enough
that they run nearly fast all the time anyway. Of course I install
them pulling air out of the cage and the result is that placing your
hand on top of the case after an hour of running and it feels cold.

I can't recommend these enough--if you are tired of the roar from fans
in the shack--these are the answer.

FWIW
