Altho I have operated 4U1UN and even been on the roof of the taller bldg to
look at the antennas that WERE there (what a view!), I can only report the
following as a rumor:
A change in administrator or administrative purview within the operations

There have been guest operations from Mt. Athos in the past. In 1987, SV2TX
and SV2UA operated from there. In 1991 DJ6SI operated. I would bet there
were a few operations before 1987 by guest operators. A major problem with
guest operators arose after Baldur's operation. I am recalling from me
I'm going to try and respond to several emails at once here...
First, let me be very clear on one thing... Monk Apollo has NOT, to my
knowledge, recently requested a donated radio nor donations towards a
replacement. I was asking the question more out of curiousity. After all,

As far as I remember the last addition as ''separate administration'' was a
special case in the eighties. That was 4J1FS, Malyj Vysotskij Island, now
listed as R1M. OH2NB, a real old-timer, had been promised many years
before by ARRL, that when an operation could take place it would be

Mount Athos was added to the DXCC-list when there was a rule regarding
''separate administration'' - that rule is long gone, as far as I remember it
was removed back in the late seventies - however regarding the time I may
be wrong. But no Indian Tribes with ''separate administration'' can be add

I understand the island of Niihau in Hawaii is almost like that except for the Holy Ground.

Finally, we have seen a sensible answer to this. I'm surprised by many of the
answers (and responses to Ron) that our DX community hasn't got it yet!

Two thoughts:
1. Sometimes it is difficult to determine who is genuinely impoverished and
who is just fishing for a new free radio. But, a monk has likely taken a
vow of poverty and from emails on the subject, this Monk seems not to have
the support for ham radio from his order/Church (who co
I would give him an "A" in creative writing. The U.S. does not have sole
claim over the title in unique, creative writing themes but does hold its
own.
As for the original posting, I could say "Ah, Tooter, always getting into

Has he asked anything?

If we want to give him a radio we can do it.
