At the moment, 9Q is once again the Democratic Republic of
Congo. I don't recall offhand when they dropped Zaire, I want to say about
3 years ago, but it could be longer (and I'm sure someone will correct
me!).
So we're back to having two entities named "Congo." So
it goes.

I guess if you're going to go illegal, you might as well go all the way.
My understanding is that if you operate illegally in some of these
locations, notably VU4/VU7, you risk VERY serious consequences with the
authorities if you're caught.

This might seem like a dumb question but why the sudden interest in so-called freebanders. Operations on 11 meters have been around for years, otherwise known as CB or citizens band. Most of us amateurs started out on the CB band and a few have gone back there as well.
That's funny, I've been a ham for 45 years and
have known a lot of hams, but I don't know one ham who started out as a CBer. As
a matter of fact most hams I know have a rather low regard for CBer's and their
slang lingo. 10-4 good buddy?
