[DX-CHAT] sending speeds in CW contests

2007-11-25 Thread Charles Harpole

In the CQ WW CW contest,
I did an experiment My IC-775dsp has a speed knob right there on the front
panel where it belongs. So, I tried answering CQs at the same speed as the
sending CQ. About one third needed me to slow down for them to copy me... and
they did copy immediately as soon as I reduced speed by about 10 WPM. This
happened so often that I think it is a trend that ops are taking advantage of
their callers by sending faster than they can copy, thus maybe saving them time
at the expense of their callers. Interesting... and of course copying an HS
prefix is a challenge anyway. 73Charles Harpole HS0ZCWCharles [EMAIL

[DX-CHAT] CQ Magazine Editorial

2007-11-25 Thread John Warren

Interesting editorial by Rich W2VU on P8 of December CQ Magazine.

Topic is Regulation-by-Bandwidth, and the (alleged) way the ARRL
Board is using IARU Region II to make a fast end run around U.S.
amateurs and the FCC after their first approach drew little support.

I find Rich's argument persuasive. Any thoughts, comments - or rebuttal ?

John, NT5C.

Can't really comment until I read the thing... but this sure sounds like the
arguments going on over on QRZ.COM (where you're either against the ARRL, or
either naieve or aa shill for them, according to the most vocal posters).

I hope Rich isn't simply rehasing that trash talk. I've always thought
better of him.

Has anything specific been mentioned, or is it the usual nameless and
faceless ARRL staffers to blame?
