Doubtful. He way way too loud here. Also, would they put such a poor op on CW? 73, Barry WC7N wrote: Boy I hope that guy on 20 CW is for real as I got him right off... Re: [DX-CHAT] [dx-list] KH8SI
If that was the one on 14.045 listening 20 - 40 kHz up the signals came from the right direction. He worked USA and later only JA, not one single European station... I don't think there are any better CW-operators at KH8SI, it was real slow and he had problems getting the callsigns correct. I have to wait for a real DX-pedition with better operators! 73/DX de Osten SM5DQC[EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: Barry [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: WC7N [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Dx-Chat dx-chat@njdxa.org Sent: Monday, July 31, 2006 12:06 PM Subject: Re: [DX-CHAT] [dx-list] KH8SI Doubtful. Re: [DX-CHAT] [dx-list] KH8SI
Yes, there are better CW operators on the Swain's Island DXpedition but it seems to be a mystery as to why they don't seem to be operating. K1ER can handle anything on a key but all I have heard him on is phone. Since I am not there, I cannot comment on much from that end, instead just try to make the best of it. John is on 75 phone as I write this. This is JA1BK's show. He probably footed the bill for the whole DXpedition. He is allowed to call the shots! Hopefully we all try to make the best of it. 73, Charlie, W0YG.. - Original Message - From: Osten B Magnusson [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Barry [EMAIL PROTECTED]; WC7N [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Dx-Chat dx-chat@njdxa.org Sent: Monday, July 31, 2006 11:05 AM Subject: Re: [DX-CHAT] [dx-list] KH8SI If that was the one on 14.045 listening 20 - 40 kHz up the signals came from the right direction. Re: [DX-CHAT] [dx-list] KH8SI
Charlie, I heard you work them on 30 this morning...congrats. There has been a lot of criticism about the KH8SI team but I am sure they are doing their best under the present conditions. Yes, I've heard them working hundreds of JA's but after just listening to the 30 meter pileup this morning I have a better understanding of why. The op (no idea who it was) was working one JA after the other, with full calls each exchange...very, very seldom did he have to say JA4K?? or the like. I heard him two or three times trying to work a USA station...the one that stands out in my mind was when he said W2? 2 or 3 times then he asked K9? 2 or 3 times...the pileup continued at full bore with no one cooperating. He started back with JA stations after several unsuccessful attempts to work NA, again working full calls from JA. I've not heard them with a decent signal on any band so I'm guessing their antenna systems are not the best, which coupled with poor conditions makes it tough. It was interesting to note this morning that the FO/KM9D was S9 while the KH8 was barely S4-5..on 30 meters. If we don't work them on this trip, I would bet that someone with a well planned DXpedition will soon be visiting Swaines and it will be quickly removed from many of our need lists. Good luck to alllets just give them the benefit of the doubt. 73 Tony, W4FOA - Original Message - From: Charlie, W0YG [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Osten B Magnusson [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Barry [EMAIL PROTECTED]; WC7N [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Dx-Chat dx-chat@njdxa.org Sent: Monday, July 31, 2006 7:38 AM Subject: Re: [DX-CHAT] [dx-list] KH8SI Yes, there are better CW operators on the Swain's Island DXpedition but it seems to be a mystery as to why they don't seem to be operating. His sig started steadily increasing on my HB Vert until around 0600 UTC when the OP stated QRT USA then went QRT. During this period the Op continually did the following scenario: K8 ?? 599 BK TU UP K4S ?? BK TU The Op didn't get the entire call yet gave a 599 and the Op came back NOT with call of the stn wkd but only a TU. So who did he work ?? I got perfect timing from two replies of KH8SI with: K4 ?? 559 BK and, K4S ?? 599 BK but all the Op sent back was 559 TU, and 599 TU. That is not a confirmed QSO with me. Did he work me ?? Don't really know so cannot log it !! Jeez !! 73, Larry - K4WLS Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX related items only, dx-chat@njdxa.org This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

For those of you like myself waiting for CW I asked him on 40 when, and he said tomorrow night which I think , notice I think, means tonight our time in North America. He also said they did not have the low band antenna's up yet.
