@khurshid-alam, the problem is stuff in main that depends on ayatana, and can't migrate until the archive is self-consistent. I'm not asking to transition universe to ayatana (it can take all the time needed, if somebody does the work), but rather asking to move ayatana to main and appindicator

Appindicator is dead ? Since when? Ubuntu and all other variants use it. Unity uses it. I fear deprecating libappindicator in favor of libayatana-appindicator won't be easy task in unity and Gnome. In-fact it's a huge task for Unity. But since both library can co-exist I don't really see a problem
