1.30hours. I fixed it by going and setting system settings-screen
display-scale for menu and title bars to 1. Also set your text scaling
factor in fonts to 1. Log out and log in to test.

I see this on systems with LDAP, and systems without. It's just happened
on this machine, which is built from scratch about 1 week ago. It's with
a new user - so all the user config is as created by a new clean Ubuntu
system. I haven't customised PAM at all.

It's worth noting that this bug can no longer occur as it is described
here -- g_mutex_lock() has been rewritten and the new version doesn't
abort.
That said, the underlying issue that was causing the misuse of a mutex
could very well still exist... Unfortunately, it's very difficult to
