[Dx-packages] [Bug 1547297] Re: No auto login in Ubuntu GNOME Xenial

2016-04-08 Thread Gene Soo
Downloaded Daily Build for AMD64 4/8/16 15:59 at 4/8/16 15:49. Can't
explain why time stamp was 10 minutes ahead of current time. This fix
does not seem to be incorporated with this build. Even though the fix
package accountsservice - 0.6.40-2ubuntu9 is available, it does no good
unless it is incorporated into the build.

Bug description:
My phone displays the time an hour out on the lockscreen and notification
bar. It is a production BQ 4.5 phone, and I am using it in the UK where
Canonical are based, so this isn't a weird edge case situation at all. I have
reflashed it altogether, and upgraded yesterday to OTA-10. It has a read only
filesystem.
If I go to time and date, and try to change my timezone it shows
Europe/London UTC+1 and below it shows the correct time ticking away with BST
at the end of it.
If I try to change the timezone I get the daft list of cities, selecting them
now highlights them in blue rather than orange, but I can't choose any of them.
I have zero clue where there might be any indication of an error log to look
for.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1567940] Re: time displayed wrongly on production phone

2016-04-08 Thread Charles Kerr
Looking over the indicator-datetime code I do see a startup timing bug
that might be causing this and have a patch for that; however, I'm not
able to reproduce this bug on my krillin. Under the 'startup timing bug'
working theory I've tried rebooting 10x and still am not seeing this
bug.

I'll get the patch reviewed and put it in a silo so that other people
experiencing this bug can see if it helps their phones.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1512002] Re: Annoying dialog "Authentication is required to change your own user data"

2016-04-08 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
mterry, charlesk, I took the liberty of subscribing you because I think it
involves this commit:
https://code.launchpad.net/~mterry/indicator-messages/tell-accounts-services/+merge/93290

The issue is happening to me as well, on Ubuntu 16.04 gnome-flashback, in 2
cases:
1) sometimes when I try to unlock the screensaver,
2) sometimes when I login via ltsp thin/fat clients.

I think the problem is the one mentioned by khadgaray in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-
messages/+bug/1192300.

I.e. that the system is trying to notify us if we have new mails etc,
and that for some reason(s) it's considering us an "inactive user"
(inactive means not in the active screen of the pc, either remote or in
a screensaver etc) and thus we need authentication.

The necessary rights are defined in this file:
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.accounts.policy

...

  auth_self
  auth_self
  yes

...

I think that if we change "auth_self"
to "yes",
we'll have a temporary workaround to the problem.

But the real issue is, should the system consider us "inactive" in the screen
saver?
Should it consider us inactive in ltsp thin clients that are remote sessions?
Should it consider us inactive in ltsp fat clients where accountsservice
doesn't have information about the remote user account? (similar with ldap)

If the answer to the above is yes, then maybe the workaround that I
mentioned above should be committed to accountsservice?

Every few days a dialog pops up saying "Authentication is required to change

cross to close the window many times it will be gone, but reappear a few days
later. I don't know what this window is for and it makes no difference whether
I close it or leave it. I don't use the gnome keyring.
This started with Ubuntu 15.04 or maybe with an earlier release, and is still
there in Ubuntu 15.10, also on machines I did a fresh install.

2016-04-08 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

I have zero clue where there might be any indication of an error log to look
for.

Title:
imported google calendar events sound when they shouldn't

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in Ubuntu Calendar App:
  In Progress
Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I use the calendar-app with my work google calendar. For that calendar
I have alarms setup to automatically send an email 24 hours, 4 hours
and 30 minutes before any event and I choose email as the reminder (as
opposed to popup) so that I wouldn't be bombarded with reminders all
day. Unfortunately the calendar app does not make a distinction
between email and popup and every event with an email reminder gets
imported as an event that gets an event notification on the phone with
an alarm sound. I have a lot of events in my calendar and so my phone
is constantly making noise at all times of the day. This is
particularly annoying at night time since I might get a reminder as
early as 3am or 4am, which wakes me up. Of course, I could use silent
mode at night, but, like last night, I forgot and was awoken at 6am.
Plus, I don't necessarily want the phone in silent mode-- I'd like to
be able to hear if a phone call comes in since that is likely an
emergency call I need to take.

There are a lot of different bugs related to calendar event
notifications and if some of them were fixed, it would ameliorate this
bug. For example, I've been hoping for a setting to disable sounds for
just the calendar (whether via the app or system settings) but
otherwise get calendar notifications. Being able to change the alarm
sound to 'None' would work too. TBH at this point I don't care which
bug is fixed, I need to get this phone to stop sounding off
  constantly.

  WORKAROUND:
  1. download https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Silence.ogg to
/home/phablet
  2. use gsettings to adjust the sound:
  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings get com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound
  '/usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/ringtones/Marimbach.ogg'
  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound /home/phablet/Silence.ogg
  $ DISPLAY=:0.0 gsettings get com.canonical.indicator.datetime
calendar-default-sound
  '/home/phablet/Silence.ogg'

uses its own notification sound regardless of what is set in "Sound".

Also, reminders are not muted when the phone is in silent mode (I
  guess it's related).

I'm on bq Aquaris, r20 and with the latest calendar-app.

  --- --- --- ---
  UX Comment:

Calendar Notifications need to be overhauled:
-- Calendar Notifications are displayed for too brief a period and should
conform to the same timing as other notifications.

-- Calendar Notifications are not currently appearing in the
notification tray within indicators and should be.

-- Calendar Notification title is misleading ('Alarm') and should make
clear that the notification relates to a calendar event ('Event') and
  not a alarm-clock event.

-- Calendar Notification's should NOT override silent mode (unlike
clock-alarms) although the notification should still be displayed,
appear in the notification within indicators and cause the device to
vibrate (if enabled) - This is accepted/common behaviour for
notifications of this type on mobile.

the time of event shown from the pulldown top menu displays a time
which is one hour BEFORE the actual set start of the event. When
setting 'Reminder' to any other option, both times are equal. Fix:if
it is a feature just make an option to disable it or set both times
  equal by default.

Also, if actual time is less than one hour before the planned start of

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1551986] Re: [FFe][UIFe] HUD hotkey assignment is suboptimal

2016-04-08 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
UIFe comment:
This change won't be reflected in the desktop guide, whose final version is
currently in the Xenial upload queue. Guess we can live with that - fixing this
issue carries probably greater weight.

As regards the new translatable string "Window", you have notified the
translators via the ubuntu-translators list. Good. Currently six days
remain before "LanguagePackTranslationDeadline" on April 14, so the
upload should better be carried out instantly to give the translators a
fair chance.

UIFe approved - with some reluctance.

  1. Hold down Alt and keep it held down.
  2. Press and release the key above Tab (Grave, or `). Keep alt held down.

While Alt is held down, the drop shadows for the window or windows of
the current application will keep building up and then going back to
normal and building up again. It's almost as though the windows are
being redrawn may times per second into a buffer without clearing it
first each time (but clearing it every second or so).

While this is happening, I notice that the drop shadow for the top bar
does the same thing. This can also be observed if one uses Alt-Tab to
select an app that has multiple windows that then expand out into a
  similar display.

I've observed this on systems with Intel, NVIDIA, and ATI display hardware,
so I don't think it's hardware-specific.
All my Ubuntu systems have 2 or 3 monitors. I suspect multiple monitors are
needed to reproduce this.

Bug description:
Having HUD trigger on alt tap is not working so this is a request to
  change it.

The suggestion (subject to Design approval) is to remap HUD to alt-
space and also expose window controls in to the HUD such that people
used to using "alt-space n"to minimize a window still can.

Bug description:
The symptoms of this bug have re-emerged in 12.10 (Bug 805303) and in
  13.04 (Bug 1084255).

  Current test cases:
May not happen the 1st try

Open vlc > Media > Open Disc
Open vlc > Tools > Preferences > click on " Show Settings > all" radio button
Open calibre after initial setting up
  Use cola git gui
Open a file from context menu > open with Vlc Media Player, then switch to
'Show Playlist'

In both all using LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 prevents bad behavior (same
  as previous bug

In the case of vlc once bug occurs you must remove ~.config/vlc/vlc-
qt-inferface.conf first before running with the
  LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0
