It sounds like the Virtual Port software is not passing through the
RTS/DTR state. Is there a setting for this?

No, there is no setting in the VCP software. As far as I know it always passes
the control signals.
Note that I said that when I substitute MixW in CW mode for DX4WIN, without
making any other
changes, the PTT and kelines work fine through the VCP software.

As a follow-up to the problem below I found a way to temporarily free up some
lower numbered ports
and had some degree of success. First, I switched from VCOM to the more full
featured com0com. This
did not help. Then I changed COM ports around a bit...
DX4WIN = COM24 = com0com = COM25 =
Had a failure of the motherboard in my Dell computer so had to replace it (with
an HP this time). Unfortunately, I think, it came with Vista as the operating
system. I have access to a free upgrade to Windows 7 (as soon as I figure out
