[Dx4win] Printers for QSLing

2009-03-22 Thread Mel Martin
As I am about to print in excess of 1500 QSL cards, I am thinking I
might change my printer.

The Brother I use now does a pretty good job on card stock... but I can
only load about 10 cards at a time... that means reloading the printer
150 times... not much fun.

Any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive printer that I can load
up with at least 100 cards at a time?

It doesn't have to be color... though that's preferred.

Re: [Dx4win] Printers for QSLing

2009-03-22 Thread Mel Martin
Unfortunately I still have about 3000 pre-cut cards to use up.

I'm starting to think about using a QSL service. Might be cheaper in the
long run.

Re: [Dx4win] Printers for QSLing

2009-03-22 Thread Mike Rhodes
It has been mentioned before by others and I have heard no negatives so far:

http://www.globalqsl.com/

1000 full color double sided QSLs */_printed and delivered to the
appropriate bureaus_/* for $99 USD. Not useful for stateside to
stateside QSLS and don't know about VE to VE but sure is handy for DX
QSLing and it generates a list of cards it cannot handle at the time you
submit your ADIF file. They even provide free software to design your
own QSL or you can use images provided by them. Only negative I found
was they cannot fill out cards and send them to you for mailing. You
have to buy cards that are complete except for the QSO info and fill or
label them yourself.

No financial interest in the company, just a very satisfied user.

Re: [Dx4win] Pre-1975 CW QSOs

2009-03-22 Thread J.F. Samuels
I have CW QSOs dating as far back as 1952. I always have to use a special
filter and a separate run for CW, merge the results in a separate Excel
file, sort, etc. or manually remove any QSOs that are picked up
automatically by DXW. Very clumsy. It may be that this DXW inadequacy has
been around a long time, but it burns me every time I submit for DXCC!

[Dx4win] ADIF County Conversion ver. 4.3 Released

2009-03-22 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Version 4.3 of my ADIF County Conversion tool is now available from:

http://software.ad1c.us/#County

This program takes an ADIF file from a contest logger like WriteLog or
N1MM, and converts the contest-specific county abbreviations into real
ADIF field values which can be imported into a general-purpose logging
program.

This version adds the Idaho and North Dakota QSO parties.

Please let me know of any problems you may encounter.

Re: [Dx4win] Pre-1975 CW QSOs

2009-03-22 Thread J.F. Samuels
Hi, Bob,

Well, your reply went to me, rather than the whole group, so I will forward
it on.

I am afraid there is no easy fix for substituting any other character for
the dot or asterisk; those characters are hard-coded into the program. They
would need to be defined in the program as a variable, and a way provided
for you to set that variable. Not a real difficult programming task, but
not a high priority, in the scheme of things. Maybe you need new specs...

I have upgraded to each new version, although not usually right when a
totally new version comes out - I wait for the bugs to be fixed..

Amen...

Well, almost my as QSO's only go back to '56.I'm still using version
5.02. Based on my usage
of the program there is no incentive to update it. A fix for this
bug would provide one.

Another issue I have, and I'll state it is mine not a bug, is with the
reports. If I do a
Report/DXCC/Listing what happens is that a never worked is a dot and a
fully confirmed and
credited item is an asterisk. More than once these tired eyes have been
confused and not seen the
difference. So what I would love to see is the ability to change
these. Say leave the dot out and
have a blank or substitute a dash in it's place. Or make the asterisk
an X or something so the
difference is more easily discernible.

If not to be part of an update/upgrade does anyone know how to do this?

Bob

[Dx4win] Report Coding (Was Pre-1975 CW QSOs)

2009-03-22 Thread Randy Farmer
Quoth Bob, K2TK, as quoted by John, K2CIB:

It is a rather minor point, but the choice of the asterisk to denote
a credited entity in the DX4WIN reports is a most unfortunate one for
those of us who want to export the reports to a comma-delimited
format and manipulate them in Excel. It seems Excel sees the asterisk
as a wild card character, and all kinds of weird things can happen
when putting the character into formulas, etc. I've had to make it a
routine practice to first open the report.csv file in WordPad, do a
search and replace to change the asterisk into something more
Excel-friendly, such as X, and re-save the file before it's ready for
Excel. It would be nice if there were some other choice than the
asterisk, hard-coded or not.

[Dx4win] Error Message

2009-03-22 Thread Bill AC0W
Running DX4Win 7.03.16, periodically when exiting I get this message:

An exception occurred!
Thread Error: Access is denied (5)

When I get this error I can not exit DX4Win. The only is to go to Task
Manager and end task.

Normal occurs when I am not connected to the radio, but I also have Stop
Radio selected.

I've tolerated it for a while but it is starting to get annoying.

Any suggestions?

Re: [Dx4win] Error Message

2009-03-22 Thread Dick Flanagan
I run DX4WIN almost 24/7 with no radio connected. I have never seen
this problem.

Currently running 7.07.02 with Windows XP Pro.

You might try updating to see if the problem goes away.
