Right on all fronts, Kostas. Updates seem to have fixed the crashes.
Definitely uploaded mstrcals.dat, so no error message on startup either.
Reset the scale to 100 and all windows are now consistent and happy.

Here's my initial feedback. Using Win10, fyi.

Unfortunately, it didn't go as easy for me as with previous version

c:\hamradio\dx4win901. The program definitely did not like that at
all, despite having had all the previous versions in the same hamradio
folder. Would not save the window positions, crashed upon exiting,
etc. Also kept coming up with "Master file:
c:\hamradio\dx4w901\SAVE\mstrcals.dat not found, no calls loaded".

Uninstalled from the folder, restarted Windows, installed in
c:\dx4w901. Now was able to save window positions, except it still
wants to load mstrcals.dat and can't find it, and it also sporadically
crashes upon exiting the program. Also had to reformat Report:logbook
window columns, but that's a minor annoyance.
Furthemore, I am using screen fonts\scale as follows: Arial 9, Fixed
Size 9, Fixed Size 9, scale factor 80, no skin selected. All windows
seem fine except:

- sunrise and sunset times are cut off in the SunRise/Set window
- CW keyboard buttons and fonts are smaller than all the other window
fonts

Now, what the hell is mstrcals.dat, where can I find it (not on AD1C
site, apparently) and how come no one else reported this same thing?

Also, I still have the program crashing problem. Sometimes it crashes
with options to abort/continue/restart, sometimes it just hangs with
"not responding" forever and it has to be killed.

Any ideas?

[Dx4win] DXLAB Import

2017-10-19 Thread William Liporace
Hi Folks,
I got away from DX4Win. Some of it was inactivity, some of it was lack of
support. Aso soon as I saw Paul's posting, I signed right up!!

So the big thing is all of the errors on the import:
75 Simple Errors
123 Zone Exceptions
20 Country Exceptions
4264 errors were found (one that bothers me the most).

Any ideas??

[Dx4win] Upgrade tips for 9.01 (quick start guide)

2017-10-19 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Here's a quick upgrade cheat sheet for 9.01. There are two important parts:

* Migrating your configuration (preferences) from the OLD to the NEW version

* Copying (not moving) your log file. The file format will be
changed when it is read into DX4WIN 9.01. If you change the old file
and write it back, then your old version of DX4WIN will not be able to
read it. *** READ THIS SENTENCE A COUPLE OF TIMES SO YOU
UNDERSTAND!!! ***

Here are the steps:

1. Using your OLD version, go to File | Preferences. Then File |
Write INI File. The default name is DX4WIN.INI *** remember where
this file is! ***

2. Install 9.01 and start it. It should come up with the default
configuration and a SAMPLE log.

3. Follow the instructions you received with your license key.
DX4WIN cannot be running when you are installing the license key.

4. Using the NEW version, go to File | Preferences. Then File | Load
Configuration File. Navigate to the file you wrote in step #1 above,
it's in your old DX4WIN SAVE directory. Double-click on the file
name, it should be DX4WIN (or whatever you named it) and say
"Configuration File" to the right.

5. Next, copy (don't move) your log file (.DXL) from your
old SAVE directory to your new SAVE directory. Right-click on the
file in the old location and choose COPY (not CUT). Then navigate to
the new SAVE directory, right-click and choose PASTE.

*** The next step is VERY IMPORTANT ***

6. Using the NEW version, go to File | Open Log File. Click on the
down-arrow arrow next to "Look in...". If the path is not the full
path to your DX4W901 SAVE directory, you must navigate there first.
When you see the .DXL file, double-click on it to open it.
DO NOT OPEN THE LOG FILE IN THE OLD LOCATION!!!

That's pretty much all you have to do.

Please post questions to the REFLECTOR, do not send me personal
E-mail. My mailbox is already too full with messages that I don't
have time to answer.

Bo,

I think that 60m and 4m are not enabled by default; check DXCC tab in
awards, in the station preferences and the filters.

2017-10-19 Thread Bo Søgaard

Hi
Tnx for fast return of license key for V9.
In Preferende I have marked 60m on both Station and Packet 3 but all 60m
spots are grey and 60m doesn't come up in the Country window either and I
can't see DXCC status on that band.

I can see it same story with 4m

Re: [Dx4win] Version 9 of DX4WIN available

2017-10-19 Thread ON4AOI
Dave and others

Backup your LOG on a safe place , preferable a usb stick or other extern device
Even Backup your entire dx4w805 directory incase you you should ever need it
again
Write before that also in preferences your dx4win.ini

Install the new version in C:\DX4W901 (this will be automatic)
B4 running copy your log(s) for example N4QS.DXL in the save directory
Start DX4W901 and close the sample log
Open your log now
This one will be changed into the new format and can´t be opened by your
previous version

You can only save when you have your new key

I suggest to setup everything fresh since dx4win.ini changed also format with
lot of new items in it
So merging is probably not so recommended if you are not sure if all is/was
correct

Hi

Thaks for making available Version 9.
Downloaded it, tried to work with my licence Version 8 but seems that 9
requires another licence (I got: *no licence found; you cannot save your
log)* . Is this correct or am I missing something?
I've downloaded my licence to DX4Win file as I've done before with version
8.05 (which works perfectly). Or should I delete Version 8 and then download
9? May I have both versions in my PC (obviously having only one
open) ?
Would appreciate your help.

Re: [Dx4win] Version 9 of DX4WIN available

2017-10-19 Thread n4qs
This is good news!

I placed my order and downloaded version 9.0. How do I upgrade from version
8.05 to 9.0? It has been so long, I can't remember.

Happy to announce that version 9 is available!

The website still needs work and I plan to do that in the coming days but
the order form is current (you may have to reload the form if you still see
version 8)

You can download the installer here: www.dx4win.com/files/dx4w901.exe

The improvements in this release would not have been possible without the
suggestions and bug reports from the beta testers:

Jim, AD1C
Paul, F6EXV
David, K2DBK
Bud, N7CW
Lee, N7NU
Guy, ON4AOI
Kostas, SV1DPI
Mike, W0VTT

With a very special thank you to Jim for his tireless efforts to get the new
data in shape to feed the country database and related files.

Important Note:
This version does not implement the editors for the various databases; this
is planned for the next update.

Callsigns
Support for on-line callsign lookups for QRZ and Buckmaster (HamCall)
Separate menu option to lookup a callsign using a web browser Callsigns can
be up to 16 characters long (up from 12)

Country Database
The country database is now split in two files; country.dat contains the
callsign mappings, country information etc. A second file, usrexcpt.dat
contains the exceptions (overrides) entered by the user. This applies to
prefix/zones/date exceptions for a callsign, QSL manager information and QSL
manager address.
Callsign exceptions and mappings in the country database have now a start-
and end-date allowing multiple date ranges to be specified.
Counties have now coordinates

Custom Awards
Custom awards have been updated to allow for more flexibility in naming
awards and better error checking.
Awards 'codes' can be 6 characters in length (up from 4). The longer values
allow for a more logical organization of the awards avoiding splitting a
single award into multiple awards.
Award 'values' can be 12 characters in length (up from 8) The abbreviation
for an award is shown in the QSO Window; pressing F1 will show the list of
valid entries and their description. The list shown takes the restrictions
for Prefix, Date, Band and Mode into account When selecting a custom award,
an information page can be displayed which may have an URL for the home page
for the award A new menu option is available to verify and convert the
custom award setting for each QSO; see QSO Window | Multiple QSO operations
| Check Custom Awards.
A new file, awdmap.txt, has been introduced to convert awards and award
values to the new custom awards.

IOTAs
For a new QSO, the IOTA field is set when the IOTA for the entity is unique.
Similarly, the Island field is set for an IOTA when the Island is unique for
the IOTA.
A new menu option is available to check existing QSOs for a valid IOTA and
set the IOTA and Island fields when they are unique; see QSO Window |
Multiple QSO operations | Check IOTAs.
The relation between Prefix and IOTA is stored in a new file: prf2iota.txt
The PopUp menu for selecting an IOTA can be limited to IOTAs by continent or
by Prefix in addition to the full list of IOTAs.
An option has been added to confirm IOTA QSOs using the .CSV file downloaded
from the RSGB; see QSO Window | QSLs | Confirm QSOs using IOTA file.

Modes
Added many more modes, and a new QSO field to enter a sub-mode. See Modes
for a table of modes and sub modes.
The option to modify the modes for the selected QSOs can also modify the
sub-mode. See QSO | Multiple QSOs Operations | Set Mode.
Added an option, (Alt+F8), to search for generic modes like Phone and
Digital.
A double-click in a summary window uses the generic mode search and
searching using the previous filter will show how that was done.

Packet Cluster
Ability to auto connect to a cluster node. The node is shown in the
preferences and will not change when the clusters.txt is updated.
The redesigned Announce DX Window can automatically include state, county,
IOTA and VUCC grid in a DX spot if specified in the QSO Window.
The clusters.txt is no longer modified after selecting a node and is now a
single file. Previously, two files were used specify a keep alive parameter
or not. The keep alive value is now part of the cluster node configuration.

Radios
A number of new radios were added.

Reports
Progress reports use now three dates for reporting.
Submission report honors the exclusion of deleted countries Added columns to
WPX submission report so it can be used for submissions by saving the report
as a csv file.

RST
rstR and rstS fields can have 5 characters; numerical formatting is no
longer enforced to allow for EME reports etc

System
On-line updating for program and data files. See Main Form | Help | Check
for Updates Many files have been renamed to better reflect their use; binary
files have the *.dat f

What version of DX4WIN? I can try it myself if I can find the same
version or something close to it.

It may be a Win 10 thing, though I no longer have a Win7 system to try
it on. Both 8.05 and 9.01 take several seconds to start on my work
laptop. It only has an SSD, so I don't know what the delay is from.
Yes, logs load quickly.
