Re: [Dx4win] DXLab
I have been a DX4WIN user for years and I really appreciate the work that has been done to keep it up. I have found it to be the premier package on the market. However, once I downloaded DXLab, I was hooked. I am a bit more of a software techie than most perhaps, but, there are so many features and things that I have always thought What if. There is a great overview presentation on DXLab on the website ( http://www.dxlabsuite.com/Presentations/) I think for many, it will seem overwhelming and then the choice would be DX4WIN, no question. Re: [Dx4win] DXLab
I agree with all! In fact, as recently as last week, I recommended DX4WIN to a new ham. I would also have paid for an annual subscription fee. On Fri, Aug 2, 2013 at 9:44 AM, Lou Dietrich n...@roadrunner.com wrote: All, My two centsthis is not a matter of making money off DX4WIN. Nobody expects to get rich especially when dealing with us frugal hams. How many of us would stay with DX4WIN if Jim AD1C didn't provide those valuable adjuncts? I venture to say, I would have walked long ago along with many on this reflector. 1. Is DX4WIN my program of choice? Yes, it is the most stable, easiest to use and demands less of my CPU than the others. Is it the most MS DOS 3.0 looking interface? Yes! 2. Is DX4WIN is dire need of a facelift, Yes! Does it have warts? You bet. 3. Does DX4WIN need improvements. Yes!(LOTW interface, multiple cluster sourcing, new rig files (FT3K ), etc.) Here's my bottom line- would I recommend DX4WIN to a new user with the current level of support and frequency of updates from the author, no way. Start with DXLabs and go forward. In my opinion, this is a matter of continuing support of a product. If we want enhancements, we should pay for them but to ignore enhancements, withhold support or walk away for weeks/ months on end from DX4WIN isn't playing right with the users. To continue to sell DX4WIN to new users isn't going to make anyone rich but there is a unwritten contract that goes along with the sale of the software, which is continuing support of the product. 73/ Regards Lou N2TU On 8/2/2013 9:02 AM, Bill Salyers wrote: I have been a DX4WIN user for years and I really appreciate the work that has been done to keep it up. Re: [Dx4win] FT-950 with DX4WIN
I have also used the 950 with the same settings as described below. There was a hang problem with XP, but, moving to Win 7 seems to have solved that. I would be interested in the modified RIG file, however Good Luck AJ8B = Bill On Fri, May 4, 2012 at 7:19 AM, Ernie w8eh.er...@gmail.com wrote: John, Yes I have the FT950 working with DX4WIN. Here is my setup. Defaults are checked, address 00 and baud 4800. I have poll rate set for 2000; RTS and DTR unchecked. On the radio CAT BPS 4800, CAT TOT 3000, CAT RTS off. I am using a standard USB to COM adapter on comm port 5 with a simple gender changer to plug into the rig. Once you get that working you will need the RIG file that I modified. The one that comes with DX4WIN has some timing problems that may cause some computers to hang the program at times. I can send a copy of my modified RIG file direct to you if you want. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Backup
Zack I use dropbox. In my professional role, I am an IT Director and have found that dropbox meets all of our security requirements. I can send a sign up link if you like. By the way. It is Free for the first 2 gBytes. On Nov 21, 2011 5:02 AM, ALAN ZACK k7...@cox.net wrote: I currently backup my DXL file to an external hard drive. I would like to find another online backup site that will allow me more storage for my DX4WIN DXL file backup, Quicken B/U, some of my word docs and photos. I have looked into Windows Cloud and SyncToy but can't determine the size or cost. Best Buy sells 30 GB storage for $49.99 a year on their SugarSync site. I am curious to what online backup sites others may be using and can recommend. [Dx4win] Dymo 400 Label error - FIXED
I was able to resolve the problem. I had to settings that I missed. The first was in DX4WIN. I had changed the label size, but not the Page Width and Page Height fields. That solved half of the problem. When I clicked on the Preview button, now the label previewed correctly. However, I also had to change the security settings on the printer itself from Win2000. It was not allowing any app to change the default paper size. I have not see that before. All is well now. I see a common error when spotting and logging portable stations: use of the double portable. The way this usually shows up is as a DX cluster spot which appears to be for North Korea. Here is one recent example: 14260.0 BA4DW/P711-Mar-2007 1448Z [...] There are also some Spanish station who identify themselve like EA9XXX/7 (meaning they are in Spain, EA), which is not correct in the regulations (they should identify like EA9XXX/EA7). This makes necessary to include them as exception calls.
