Hi Guy,

I have just swapped round the com ports.

JTDX works fine on the two other pairs, and DX4Win does NOT work on the
one that was working with JTDX...

Delete jtdx virtual ports and try with dx4win on that virtual ports (pair)
And check if that works, if not then its related W11<>Delphi

If I just minimise DX4Win manually, when I restore it, all the windows come

I have the main DX4Win (Title) window wide across one monitor and all the subsidiary one

The three monitors are coming off a single graphics card with 2 Display Ports

Re: [Dx4win] Problem since upgrade to W10/W11

2023-03-09 Thread David Gould

Hi Guy,

Thanks for the explanation and suggestions.  I have re-booted the
computer, started Win4Yaesu and then tried to start DX4Win.   No change
in the response.  I still get the error boxes which I have to close and
then DX4Win starts as normal.

By playing around I have found a solution.  My virtual COM port pair was
20/21. The set-up video said it didn't matter which of the pair was used
for the application.  I had it set for COM20, for a trial I changed it
to COM21 and that has got rid of the problem.

That is one more niggle removed.  Thanks.

Hi Dave,
This is 100% not a windows problem but the order you start all programs.
I use Win4Icom and Com-0-Com also even via remote.
DX4WIN is based on delphi and needs exclusive serial port(s)
Startup Win4Yaesu with the radio connected and make sure the setup is perfect.
Make two pairs of Com-0-Com
The 1st pair should be for DX4WIN at max 38400 Baud even if your radio can go
higher.
Be sure that the rigdriver in dx4win has the same baudrate, if not then change
it.
The 2nd pair should be for WSJT-X also at max 38400 Baud.
If for any reason wsjtx build in rigdrivers are not perfect use omnirig v1.18
(this one works perfect newer have also glitches on some computers)
Start
WIN4YAESU
Wait until all is ready
Start
DX4WIN
If radio is connected
Then
Start
WSJT-X
Shutdown in reverse order
Can be setup in WIN4YAESU

Second option is if your radio has USB and also a SERIAL port
To setup the radio with via serial port to DX4WIN, but make sure
You use FTDI based USB to serial cable if no serial port is available
Most of the other usb2serial is crap.

Re: [Dx4win] My misunderstanding or a bug? RESOLVED

2023-01-31 Thread David Gould

Thanks to Mike, he pointed out a reason by a private message.

There was an issue under     File > Awards > WAZ..  Valid Modes
For all the other awards all the various modes were selected, but for
WAZ there were only a few selected but crucially **NOT**  MFSK so
selecting that mode has corrected the situation. I don't ever remember
being in this part of the settings so I don't know why the WAZ modes
were different from all the other ones.

Thanks Mike...

It is nice to know that I have two less (tricky from EU) zones to work
than I thought I needed,  getting close to 7 band WAZ on the FT Digi
modes    Happy days!

[Dx4win] All my windows are off screen except for the main window.

2022-07-29 Thread David Gould
I am in the middle of trying to get a second monitor working on new W10
machine.   I have what seems to be a common (but not universal problem)
for any windows open on the second monitor move to the first monitor
when the screen wakes up from screen save mode. (OK when I minimize /
maximise or close / open)   Does anyone have a fix for this on W10.   I
understand W11 has fixed this problem.

Anyway while I have been trying various things, all my DX4Win windows
went off screen. There was a tiny fragment of the main window showing,
so I have managed to drag that window back into view.       Is there a
way I can get all the other open windows back into view somewhere?

suggestion of just copying the complete folder work across different
operating system versions?

Or is there a better way to do it?   I do have a back-up copy of my
licence file readily available.

[Dx4win] Cluster spots

2021-06-23 Thread David Gould
I use CC User to link to a cluster and then the spots are fed into
DX4Win.   The issue seems to be caused by the cluster spots not having a
date (only time) or I am not picking up the date properly.

In the morning say at 09:00 when the bands are quiet and not many spots,
my DX spots window in DX4Win starts with the spots from 00:00 to (say)
09:00 but then shows the spots from 09:00 to 23:59 **for the previous
day**.   It is not a big job to delete the yesterdays spots, however,
after a few hours (say at 11:00) I suddenly find the spots for 11:00 to
23:59 for the previous day have been re-populated.

When the bands are busy the problem goes away because there are enough
of today's spots to fill the window.

I am assuming the cluster does not **push** the spots out again, so
how/why is either CC User or DX4Win asking for the last 100 spots again?

Can anyone shed any light on this or should I approach the CC User forum

Re: [Dx4win] Filtering with time as well as date

2019-12-02 Thread David Gould

To Jim and others on and off the reflector.

Thanks for the various suggestions and work-arounds.  The one I like
best is the one to use the same file produced for LoTW to update
Clublog, I just need to be more rigorous in my own procedures.  Then I
can look at the syncing feature in Clublog to make it even simpler.

Now it is of secondary and minor importance but I would still be
interested why the filter/search including the time did not work as
expected, and whether it is supposed to work, and if so how? Not urgent.

DX4WIN already has a feature to avoid duplicate QSOs.

File | Preferences | QSO tab, make sure that "LoTW" is checked under
"Label/Upl flag". Each new QSO will have the "LoTW" flag set in your
logbook. When you want to export for LoTW or Club Log, LoTW | Export
to LoTW. DX4WIN will export only those QSOs where the flag is set.
It will then clear those flags, and put today's date in the "Upload
Date" field. This will prevent them from being exported again. You
don't have to use the LoTW flag for this, you could use the eQSL flag
instead if you don't use that service.

Personally, every time I Export to LoTW, I upload those QSOs to Club
Log. Club Log has a feature called "LoTW Sync" where it uploads any
new QSOs to LoTW on your behalf:

 https://clublog.org/lotw/

One upload, two consumers. And I don't have to remember which QSOs I
uploaded to which service.

[Dx4win] Fwd: Filtering with time as well as date - correction

2019-12-02 Thread David Gould

Correction to first line sorry for mistake..

I would like to be able to filter logbook records based on **time** as
well as just date.  When I try I get odd results.

Yesterday I made 18 QSOs.  After the first 16,  I did an upload to
Clublog thinking that was it for the day.  I then made 2 more QSOs.  ( I
know I can upload all of them and Clublog would ignore the duplicates -
but I thought I would try and be more efficient and try and upload just
the two new ones)

My log looks like this

9 QSOs before 16:00

Then QSOs at 16:18  16:28  16:36  16:39  16:40  16:42  16: 43 (Clublog
upload)  16:49  21:26  All the 16:00 QSOs were on 17m the 21:26 one was
on 40m.

To try and just select the last two new QSOs I did Filter / Search and
set date as 01/12/2019  and time as 16:45 and end date as 01/12/2019.
(no end time option)

The filter search results returned 5 records, the QSOs from 16:39 to
16:49 but not the one at 21:26.   Also why were just some of the QSOs
before 16:45 included?

Have I missed something, perhaps an additional setting somewhere?    Is
what I am trying to do supposed to be possible? If so how?

There is no way to do what you want in one step. You can use ALT-F8

At the top of the QSO window: QSO > Mark invalid for awards If you

If you want to mark it invalid only for a specific award, you can do

Thanks to Jim and others for the help.

I have now installed V7 on my second hard drive, by copying the complete

I had noticed that my install of V8 is in C:\ so I was going to ask

Now I just need to plan the upgrade to V8.. I have rather a mess of

think I am going to have some "fun" rationalising these..

Do not use *either* for DX4WIN. Windows 7 and beyond place much more
stringent protections on these directories. You may find that you
will be unable to save your log and/or update data files.

Install it as C:\DX4W7## (the path suggested by 8.05) or some other
partition in your system, but do *not* install under Program Files.

In fact, you do not really even need to install it, because DX4WIN
does not use the Windows registry. Just copy your entire DX4W7##
directory (including all subdirectories) from the XP machine to the
Win7 machine. You can do this with a USB flash drive. Then simply
create a shortcut on your desktop to run "dx4win.exe" in the new
target directory.

[Dx4win] Kosovo

2014-05-24 Thread David Gould

I worked Z62FB (Kosovo) this afternoon.

It is not recognised by DX4Win or Clublog (There is an entry on QRZ.COM)

What is the status of Kosovo and what is the correct way to handle this QSO?

[Dx4win] Computer move and version upgrade.

2014-05-13 Thread David Gould

I am currently using V7 on an old WinXP machine.

I am installing a new computer with Win7. I also want to upgrade to V8.

I am happy to set my preferences up from scratch in V8 as I want to
play with it for a while on a dummy log.

Can I then simply export my logfile from V7 on old machine (using
DX4WIN6 format) onto a thumb drive and then import it into V8?

Any other things I need to do? I don't have any customisations.

Or..
Do I need to install V7 first on the new machine and then do the upgrade?

If so, Is there a place from where I can download V7.07.02. ( I
have my licence key backed up in many places, but seem to have lost
the program install file)

[Dx4win] Country File TX6G

2014-03-17 Thread David Gould
I have just done some testing before the TX6G group get active later
in the week.

I put TX6G into DX4WIN with the latest country file.. It showed the
QSL manager at G3TXF correctly - but did not show any country code
(FO/A.), so I guess there must be an entry but is it complete/correct?

I put the country code in and saved it and then deleted it and now it looks OK.

[Dx4win] Using PstRotator program with DX4Win

2014-02-05 Thread David Gould

Is anyone else using this program with DX4Win V7.7?

Also if anyone is using V8.05 I would be interested if it works
successfully with this version?

The issues I have are as follows..

1) If I use a preset in PstRotator, when I return to DX4Win and do
F11 to move to the bearing in **THE CALLSIGN ALREADY IN THE LOGGING
WINDOW** the rotator does not turn.

2) The same thing happens if I use the PstRotator STOP button, I
can't then turn to the direction of the current callsign.

The only way round I have found is to click on a different spot - not
save the current QSO - then click back to the wanted spot - not save
again. and then the rotator will turn.

Any report of this working or not-working for other would be useful.

Thanks,

[Dx4win] Spot Window

2013-10-21 Thread David Gould

I use VE7CC to do an initial filter on incoming spots.

When in DX4Win is it possible to only show the higher priority spots
in the spot window..

I am ignoring gray spots already.

At times, I would like to be able to show only priority 1 - 3 or 1 -
5? (or ignore 4 - 8 or 6 - 8)

Can this be done? I am still using V7.7.2..

Re: [Dx4win] Is there a blacklist feature for Cluster spots?

2013-07-31 Thread David Gould

Please could you provide a bit more information..

My DX4WIn help has stopped working, so can't look there..

Where is the filter command entered?

In example below the line break is in an unfortunate position.. is
there a (space) between REJ and PSE or does it have to be a line break?

I want to try
SET/FILTER KEYWORD/REJ ROS

I use VE7CC so have got options there if required.

Any help appreciated.

[Dx4win] DX4Win QSO confirmations and Clublog.

2013-05-16 Thread David Gould

I am using version 7.7.2

I had spotted a few anomalies between DX4Win and Clublog, so I have
cleared my Clublog data and reloaded it totally from DX4Win.

The QSO totals look about right, but I now have a heap more anomalies
with QSO confirmations.
Most of my confirmations are from LoTW, so I upload the lotwreport
file to both DX4Win and Clublog.
For the few paper cards I get, I set the QSO conf flag in DX4Win and
then export the few specific QSOs and upload them to Clublog.

This has worked fine up until now.

To refresh Clublog, I exported my complete log, but there were a lot
of confirmations missing...
I then exported all my LoTW QSLs again and uploaded them to
Clublog.. Still a load of QSLs missing.

I did a filter on the conf flag (to get the QSL card confirmations)
and it selected thousands more records than I have QSLs card for.

What should the procedure be to properly export all confirmations for Clublog?

Are there any Clublog Users who have done a complete Clublog refresh
successfully?

Thanks for any help.

[Dx4win] Not In Log

2012-11-01 Thread David Gould
I am happy to get most of my confirmations through LoTW.

However, I have been chasing a few confirmations with direct QSLs,
most of which have been OK.

However, I have had a couple of Not in Log returns. Do people just
delete the QSO, or is there some recommended way to flag the QSO so
that the band-slot will show up as needed in the DX Spots window,
and will be excluded from any reports.

I had wondered the same question.. Just one follow-up.

I use the local connection (to VE7CC). Is there a way to move this

Is there an option to clear, automatically, all the old spots when

Yes, there is no auto-login. However, once you have chosen a node,
the next time you start DX4WIN, move the mouse pointer into the the
Packet Spots window, then type the ENTER key three times. The first
time it says there's no connection. The second time brings up node
list. And the third time selects node at the top of the list. Then
you should get your node login prompt in the Packet Spots window.

[Dx4win] Lotw help please - now sorted

2010-11-04 Thread David Gould
I changed my user level - and then found the multiple QSO operations,
so I think I am OK..

Sorry for the bandwidth..

73,

I have done something wrong in trying to upload to Lotw (V7.07)

I tried once and did something wrong, tried again and only got a
fraction of the QSOs exported.

I have now reset the upload flag to Y for the 1275 QSO I
need. However I now am getting Zero QSOs exported.
It looks like the upload date overrides the upload flag and prevents
the export.. Is this correct?

If so can I remove the upload date and start over? (I don't fancy
doing each one manually!!)
(None of the previous attempt file have been submitted to Lotw)

Any help appreciated. I can't find anything in the help.

[Dx4win] Country error because of wrongly given callsign

[Dx4win] Priority/Colours in Spotting Window

2009-10-29 Thread David Gould
This seems like a very basic question to which I should be able to
work out the answer, but having read the help several times and
investigated several callsigns I can't work out the logic.

I understand Priority 1 (New country)
I understand the unconfirmed variations of the other priorities..

The award is set up for DXCC
The **only** mode specified is SSB

Could someone please explain the difference between..
priority 3 - new award band.
and priority 6 new band mode.

I am missing F on 10m and a spot shows RED (Priority 3)
I am missing ON on 15m and a spot shows GREEN (priority 6)

I must be missing something!!

[Dx4win] QSO confirmed status (not) on ADIF export.

2009-04-06 Thread David Gould
I have just upgraded from V6 to V7 with the V7 installed in a new folder.

Question 1)
The HELP menu item does not work. On clicking I get a WARNING msg
 Could not get help contents
 Error = 0
Msg = The operation completed successfully !!

If I click on Search for Help On... I get nothing at all.

This might help my main problem if I could get at the help...
Do I need to do something to activate the Help?

Question 2)
I think the ADIF field that gives the QSO confirmed status is
called qsl_rcvd:1
   Is this correct?

Question 3)
I exported my log a few weeks ago with V6 and the the few QSOs that I
have card confirmations for were apparently exported correctly as the
receiving application shows them as confirmed.
I have since upgraded to V7
I have now created a dummy log and done 4 exports
a) No confirmations in DX4Win
b) card confirmation
c) upload confirmation
d) both confirmations
I have changed the QSO preferences each time accordingly
The DXCC summary report shows the correct data for each case.
But all four ADIF exports have the item..qsl_rcvd:1Neor

So if I am looking at the correct ADIF item I am not getting any
Yes confirmations exported in any of the cases.

Any help to solve this would be appreciated?
Has something in this area changed from V6 to V7?

Dave

Re: [Dx4win] Help and ADIF solutions

2009-04-06 Thread David Gould
In case anyone else is interested in the result of my investigations
and help from others here is the learning.
Thanks to all those who offered assistance.

RE Help problem.
My V7 install did not automatically create a desktop
shortcut. Apparently you have to do this manually, having done this
the Help works. (I had just double-clicked on the .exe file in the
DX4Win707 folder) I don't know how people are supposed to know to
create a desktop shortcut??

RE qsl-rcvd ADIF problem.
This ADIF field only recognises the Card confirmed QSOs. It does not
take any notice of the Upload confirmed indicator. Even when the
Preferences QSO confirmed field is set to Card or Upload So
unless there is another way round this there is no way to export the
confirmed status of any LoTW confirmed QSOs.

Could this be looked at??

[Dx4win] DX4Win and Clublog

2009-04-05 Thread David Gould
Are there any other Users of DX4Win and Clublog out there?

I have just received my first batch of LoTW confirmations and have
exported my updated log to Clublog, which does not seem to be showing
the LoTW confirmations (only the card confirmations). Is there any
special action I have to take with the export to ADIF to ensure it
picks up both types of confirmation?

Re: [Dx4win] VE7CC

2009-04-04 Thread David Gould
Thanks to all who showed me how to link DX4Win to the VE7CC application.

I have now upgraded to the latest version and got the cluster working
fine with VE7CC

[Dx4win] Using the VE7CC cluster with DX4Win

2009-04-03 Thread David Gould
Info must be somewhere, but I can't find it!! I have looked in the
AD1C app notes and the searchable archives, I see lots of people
asking the same question, but I can't find the answer.

Could someone please let me have a link to how to set up DX4Win and
VE7CC cluster so that they can be used together?

[Dx4win] Vista and serial ports

2006-11-01 Thread David Gould
I saw Guy's comment below regarding Vista not supporting serial or
parallel ports.

As I see it there are three ways of providing serial ports
1) On the motherboard
2) From a PCI card
3) From a USB converter

Will Vista prevent the use of **ALL** of these, if not which will
still be available?

Subject: RE: [Dx4win] USB-Parallel adaptors

Tony,

buy a PCI 2 LPT expansion board
don't now any USB to LPT that works with all I/O

BTW Vista isn't supporting LPT or Serial only USB

[Dx4win] LOTW Virgin.

2006-08-30 Thread David Gould
I am just about to make my first tentative steps into LOTW. I have
registered and got my certificate. I have to say I am doing this
with a certain amount of trepidation...

I am using V6.04 which I believe makes things a bit more
straightforward than they used to be. I have read the manual and
also read through Jim Reisert's web page which is largely about pre
version 6.04. I am happy to take backups before (and after) updating
my logfile to give me recovery options, but as I understand it, once
anything is put into LOTW thats it, and it can't be changed or updated.

I thought that before I go ahead I would ask for any guidance,
strategies, or hints and tips, over and above the basic operational steps.

One of my concerns is about contest logs where I might have logged
the wrong callsign. What are the implications, and are there
established actions that help deal with this situation?

Any help would be much appreciated.

[Dx4win] LOGGING

2006-01-28 Thread DAVID GOULD
I have used SD and DX4WIN for a long time, and SD can produce ADIF for
import into DX4WIN and also Cabrillo files for contest submission.

SD is brilliant for simple contesting - if you are not networking several
computers and do not need an integrated link to a web-accessed DXcluster. You
can learn to use it in just a few minutes (and I really mean it). The manual
is only about 18 pages and there are a vast number of contest templates
pre-defined. Paul the author is very supportive and reactive through the SD
reflector.

[Dx4win] New countries when adding an ADIF log

2005-03-30 Thread David Gould
I have just added my ADIF log from the WPX contest.
I did a DXCC report before and after adding the 150 Qs.
I see from the report I have worked 3 new countries overall and 11 new ones
on 15m.
Is there a simple way to find out what these new ones are?
