[Dx4win] DX4WIN New Version

2004-04-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED] (J. F. Samuels)
I like MMTTY and continue to use it for just the neat RTTY tuning indicator.
I have carefully compared my KAM, MMTTY and MixW for receiving
RTTY, and MixW definitely has the edge, with MMTTY second.

MixW is appealing also since it runs CW, Packet, FSK31, AMTOR, PACTOR
(receive only), MFSK, Throb, MT63, Hellschreiber, FAX and SSTV, as well as
BPSK31 and QPSK31. I do not use its logging capabilities.

My DX4W602 .EXE file is dated 3 February 2003. That's only a little over
one year by my calculation.

Lets hope that all the various abnormalities within 6.02 and for that matter
were in Ver5 are addressed before worrying about adding to the programme
capabilities.
Like having the frequency logged for each Q in its own window, setting the
80m band to read 3.5mhz not near the top of the band at 3.7 it will then
conform with the rest of the world.!!
Changing notes for this call to read 'Name' because just about anything else
can change.
Having the bearing and SR/SS for large countries such as VK and VE split
down to call areas So as I can tell when VK6 sunrise is instead of Canberra
or Sydney.
Being able to log reports for more obscure propagation modes like MS or EME
within the RST fields.
Having a user defined data base of club membership numbers available etc etc

I'm not so sure I'd class these as abnormalities as perhaps=20
 personal=20
 wishes. (Comments, below):

=20
Yep, that sort of makes sense.

Yes... The frequency should be logged for compatability with just about
every other logger and ADIF...
For this reason alone, I gave up asking and have moved to another =
logger...
But I miss DX4Win's quirky but quick interface, so keep hoping!!! I'll =
never
go back to DX4Win until it's as easy to exchange data with as other =

(ie no loss of entropy ;-)

=20
Changing notes for this call to read 'Name' because just about=20

=20
Not necessarily. I sometimes log that the guy is an ex-G=20
 (like myself)=20
or something about his past that I find interesting, such as being=20
ex-military or having lived somewhere else.
=20
A separate field for Ops name would be appreciated... Notes otherwise =

fine as is.

=20
Fine, but that only works for geographical prefixes that are=20
 enforced by=20

Seems to, me this is done...

Logic 7 does this well, and I do like it... Very handy!

And I would like a much easier interface to LoTW... Such as in Logic,

Wasn't there a discussion on this a year or so ago and it dealt with money.
As I recall the developer of MMTTY said it was free to use but not to charge
for. As you know we pay for DX4WIN so figure that means we would be paying
for MMTTY if it was integrated into DX4WIN.

I also would sure like it to be a part of the next DX4WIN.

Dick, no one *knew* that Paul was working on a new release, not even the beta
testers (of which I am one).

It makes sense to me that Paul would be collecting ideas for the next
release as soon as the previous one goes out. He probably has a list with
hundreds of items on it that he has been looking into over the past two
years. At some point he will have a significant collection of them ready
to go out to Beta testers. Any suggestions coming in after that time will
go in the pot for the following release.

As I read the organization chart, Paul and Steve are management. Beta
testers are testers. Users are the collective wisdom that drives each
release.

Please forgive the rant, but I spent most of my adult life in software
development and remember will great frustration all of the gotta have
ideas I received as a release I had worked on for a year finally went into
testing.

I believe there has been a change in the availability of MMTTY. The
language on the MMTTY web site now says that it can be used in commercial
programs provided that the MMTTY engine and help file are not included as
part of the distribution, while before the answer was a flat no. I would
not be surprised if this change was made recently enough that Paul had
already settled on the design of the next release.

Writelog incorporates MMTTY as an free and separate addin (I suppose to get
around the $ factor) - works like a charm , BTW

I bought DX4WIN at the recommendation of a QSL manager for the ease of
printing labels for a station I manage (if anyone is looking for a QSL
manager email me direct) to date that is all I have really used it for - I
own Writelog for RTTY Contesting and TRlog for CW SSB contesting abd
usually just import my Q's into DX4Win after the fact - along with lotw
uploads,
