[Dx4win] DX4WIN version 8.05

2011-04-02 Thread Ron Polityka
Hello,

I go portable a lot on the Appalachian Trail.

I like using the DX4Win 8.05 on my old Libretto 110CT
computer. This computer is about the size of a VCR cassette
tape.

It is a 233 MHz processor with 64 MB of RAM running Windows
XP Pro. The computer is maxed out for any upgrades and
everything is off that can be without turning off the
computer.

Wonder if there is anything in the DX4WIN 8.05 that I can
turn off that would make it run a little faster other than
upgrading to a new laptop.

Please reply directly to my e-mail address

2011-04-02 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
Sorry for the blank message, let's try that again:

My 2 cents is that you are to be congratulated for getting XP pro to run
in only 64MB of RAM. I'm up to I think 1.5 or 2G of RAM on this box (a
fairly recent Dell desktop) and it's OK, but I wouldn't call it blazing
fast.

There's not a whole lot that you can turn off. You can leave off the
callsign lookups.close the Other QSOs window, don't run cluster (not
terribly useful anyway while on the trail), and generally just keep the
QSOs window only open in as small a configuration as you can. (Pressing
F5 cycles the sizes). I guess basically you want to have the computer
doing as little as possible, which includes having to redraw windows.

Good luck!

I agree with David K2DBK.
F5 your logging window to it's smallest config and
only open 'same call' window (so you know if you
have worked before). Bring the other windows up as
needed, then shut them 'off' (not min).

WOW XP PRO on 64 meg of mem. The hard drive
must be working overtime as Windows offloads
to the hard drive when mem runs low...

I wanna run DX4WIN on my DROID X.

My guess is NO. However, try setting the hex address in your -7700 to
match that for the -7800, then tell DX4WIN you're using an IC-7800.
It might just work. Same goes for the -7600. I imagine the new ICOM
(read split) commands in all three radios are the same, but I don't
think Paul had access to either the -7600 or -7700 for testing. If
you can help him, it would help everyone.

2011-01-31 Thread Wayne
Hi All,
I can't remember if I'm having a senior moment or if something has
really changed.

I am using a Yaesu FT-1KMp MKV and the program does not seem to read the
split or QSX frequency when posting a spot. When clicking on a spot the
radio splits fine if the spot was posted correctly. I've noticed this
with 8.04 and now 8.05 and wonder if there is something I forgot to do
with the upgrade. Also when logging the QSO there is no notification of
using split.

Hopefully someone can confirm my sanity check. G

Mr. Paul,

Is there a trick? I downloaded 8.05 per the instructions below, but
the icon on my desktop still opens 8.04.

When I go to the directory and open 8.05 manually, it says it's only
a demo and I won't be able to save my logged contacts.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN version 8.05

2011-01-30 Thread Garry Shapiro
Change the icon on your desktop to one from the 8.05 package. Some of
these are version-specific.

Move your license file from 8.04 to 8.05. The file is (your
callsign)_lic.dx4w8 and is currently in your main DX4WIN directory in
8.04. No tickee, no shirtee.

Please read this note about upgrading:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/upgrade.htm

1. DX4WIN does not install an icon on your desktop, only a program
group in the Start menu. The default name is usually DX4WIN but I
like to rename it (during the install) to DX4WIN #.##

2. It sounds like you didn't copy your license file. All described
in the app note above.
