W4GKF actually has a detailed paper on the web that provides very extensive instructions how to set up both CC User and DX4WIN. In short, you need to go into CC User, click on Configuration, click on Ports/Logging Programs and then make sure that the Enable Telnet and Use Port 7300 are both checked. Then go into DX4WIN and when you right-click to open the Packet Window, scroll down until you find LOCALCC User,localhost:7300 and select that internet address (don't select your local dx cluster node). DX4WIN will now connect directly to CC User via the local port 7300. Using this approach, I use CC User to stay connected to my local cluster 24/7 since it has excellent built in features to automatically stay connected. I then merely connect to CC User via the local host port as described above whenever I open DX4WIN. You can also go the AD1C's support site and there is an application note about this same feature and the link to the W4GKF paper. 73, Dave, N4QS -Original Message- From: DX4WIN [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of William Osborne Sent: Sunday, June 07, 2015 8:42 AM To: DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Disconnects Mine disconnects from our clubs CC cluster. [Dx4win] DX4WIN Disconnects?
I have the latest version of DX4WIN. I notice that it is disconnecting from the AR cluster node on a regular basis every 7 to 8 hours or so. I do have keepalive set and it is triggering every 5 minutes so it is probably not DX4WIN problem but wonder if anyone might have insight as to where I might start looking. Don't seem to be having a problem with modem, router or other programs. __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

The good news: the VE7CC user program does a great job of reconnecting/staying connected: http://bcdxc.org/ve7cc/ The bad news: it's not compatible with AR-Cluster, only CC Cluster and DX Spider. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, jjreis...@alum.mit.edu, http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Disconnects?
Have you tried another cluster node? I found the one I was on kept dumping me regardless of the keepalive setting, and when I moved to another node, I stayed connected for days/weeks (or until the node manager needed to do maintenance.) 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas www.ac5aa.com -Original Message- From: DX4WIN [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of John Lambert Sent: Saturday, June 06, 2015 8:43 AM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Disconnects? Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Disconnects?
I run two connections to AR Cluster (VE7CC) on my radio computer. One is through DX4WIN, the second, directly using the AR software. The DX4WIN connection drops at random times, anywhere from 3 - 12 hours, while I seldom lose the direct AR connect. It can run for days without dropping. What I don't like about the DX4WIN connection process, it takes up to 6 - 8 mouse and keyboard strokes to complete it. Maybe Paul can improve the process to 2 - 3 strokes in the future? Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Disconnects?
While I agree that I'd like to have an easier way to connect (and would like to have it connect automatically, if so desired), what I do now is I use Autohotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) to automate starting DX4WIN. It starts it, connects the packet cluster, and even runs some additional programs that I have running when I'm operating. Although you can do some very sophisticated things with AHK, starting a program and other basic things are quite simple. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Disconnects?
There's an even easier way: 1) Start program 2) Left-click in the packet window 3) Hit Enter 3 times (First time brings up the No connection popup, second time closes that popup, 3rd time picks the top node in the list) 4) Type in call sign (FYI it looks liek you only replied to me, so I'm cc'ing the whole list; I wasn't the one having the issue.) [Dx4win] Disconnects
Well, I might as well have a go at this. I now connect to clusters via broadband wireless and do have an excellent connection as I am very near the signal source. Previously, I used a dial up connection, a little less reliable. Before that, two meter packet, even less reliable. Now, I can ping the server and I never have found that was loosing any packets. Even now, I will occasionally be disconnected, but not often. I believe that about all disconnects are a result of web congestion, not from any fault in DX4win. When web traffic is heavy, there will be an occasional disconnect, but not enoiugh to be a big problem. I think that if Paul put an automatic ping into Dx4win that the only result would be more traffic on the web. Most of the clusters have an automatic transmission every nine minutes anyway and if there is no web congestion, you will not be disconnected. I'm just thankful that the reliability is so much better than the packet days anyway. 73 BILL-W5VW - Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo!
