Re: [Dx4win] Group filter/selection
Hi John, Now, all is perfectly clear! I followed your procedure and it worked perfectly. I could even check it by creating a new DX4WIN log and importing the created ADIF log: the new log contained only the selection! I uploaded Clublog.adif to Clublog and it worked flawlessly. So, thanks you again and I hope to have a QSO with you in a near future on one of the bands. I am sending a copy of this to DX4WIN Reflector so that it will close my case and help to others who might have had same misunderstanding as myself. Very best 73, Radi F6GNZ Le Samedi 20 février 2016 20h06, John Shaw a écrit : Hi Radi, Ok here goes. If you create a selection filter and then save the log you will save the whole log. It does not matter if you save it as F6GNZ or CLUBLOG your going to have all QSO's. So both files will contain all QSO's and they will both have available the selection filter that you made. To create a new log with some groups removed you need to do it differently but you don't need to do that for what you are wanting to do. To sum up. Saving a log with a selection filter will not filter QSO's. Exporting a log with a selection filter will filter QSO's Here is how I export QSO's to upload to Clublog. In my log which is called ZL1BYZ.DXL I choose the selection filter that I have made to give me a selection of only QSO's I want to upload, then with that selection filter ON I go to the File menu and choose Import/Export and export as ADIF. I save the file as ZL1BYZ.ADIF to my Desktop. At the end of the export a window will tell you how many QSO have been exported, it will match your selection filter. Then I go back and turn OFF the selection filter. Now my log is ready for new QSO's, nothing has been changed. To complete the clublog upload I go to Clublog and go through the upload process choosing the ZL1BYZ.ADIF file I just created on my desktop. The next time I want to upload some more QSO's to Clublog I do the same process overwriting the ZL1BYZ.ADIF file on my desktop with the new QSO's. It becomes a simple safe process. Your main log stays in the same place and is unaffected by the Clublog upload and you have an ADIF file on your desktop which you update using the selection filter and Export adif process before you do a Clublog upload. Finally when ever you are doing some work on your log that you are not sure the result is going to be what you want. MAKE A BACKUP FIRST Do this with your computer's file management tools (Windows Explorer?) not within DX4WIN using save or save as. That is the quickest route to confusion and loosing QSO's. Hope that helps 73 John ZL1BYZ. I check in SAVE folder, Clublog.dxl is still 2099 kB.Then, I re-open f6gnz, find selection Clublog, Update, OK , list shows again 11988 QSOs . I save log as Clublog.dxl (can't save as ADIF, saving accepts only DXL; ADIF only after export). Saved log shows again 2099 kB. I open Clublog.dxl, it shows 17089 QSOs and after selection, list shows 11988 selected QSO's, but whether I save it just by clicking on Save or Save as , Clublog.dxl still shows 2099 kB and when I open it I see all 17089 QSOs. Re: [Dx4win] Group filter/selection
Hi John, You are 100% right: I tried and it works! Thanks! I was always afraid to just "save" it (under the source name) after creating the selection and seeing that the number of QSOs listed after selection has decreased. I thought that saving would cause my source log name now becoming a different, shortened version containing only selected groups. It is a pity that it is not explained so clearly in the Help file.. Best regards,Radi F6GNZ Le Vendredi 19 février 2016 3h23, John Shaw a écrit : Hi Radi, No you won't loose any QSO's when you create a filter it does not delete the QSO's from the log they just aren't in the current selection. Your log does not change size, you see fewer QSO's because you have made a filter. Turn it off and all the QSO's are back again. If you don't believe me, try this. Make a backup of your log and put it somewhere safe then make a note of how many QSO's are in the log, now make your filter selection click OK then when you go back to the log entry window save the log. Now go back and cancel the filter selection then go back to your log and count the QSO's believe me they will all be there I know because I do this every day and have never lost a QSO. In fact when you make a new or change a filter selection and click OK DX4WIN needs you to do a save or you will loose the changes you have made. Re: [Dx4win] Group filter/selection
Hi Jim, Thanks for your comment and suggestion. Unfortunately, it would make things even more complicated as I would need to make several templates...Because, starting with my log containing all QSOs and many different groups (/P from different locations, /M, /F), /FG, QRP, ...) , I need periodically to generate several different logs, for exporting to Clublog, for BV7 home qso QSLs, for BV7 portable QSOs QSLs from different locations, etc.. That's why I hoped that within my "all QSOs" log, I could create several group names, each containing two or more groups, and have them memorized once for ever (deletion and additions being always possible). So, after having added QSOs to the main log, I could just open this log, scroll through created selection names, select one of them, click Update and OK, and this would result in a log with the same selection name but containing additional QSOs within that name. Then I could save and export the updated log as adif to Clublog update/append or replace, BV7 etc... Anyway, it's not so very critical, I will just need to re-create same names again and again each time I want to feed Clublog or BV7. It will not kill me, but I just thought it could be much more practical to get it done only once... 73,Radi F6GNZ Le Jeudi 18 février 2016 23h46, Jim Reisert AD1C a écrit : Hi Radi, Both group numbers and group selections are store in the .DXL (log) file.
