Thanks Mark! I wonder why this recent Firefox change only affects ADI downloads from LoTW? 73, Mike Cizek W0VTT -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net On Behalf Of ON5GM Sent: Monday, 18 July, 2022 00:48 To: DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Lotw and dx4win 1 - download and install Content-Type Fixer 2 - Start Firefox. At the top right you will see an icon with a hammer, click on it to see the menu of Content-Type Fixer 3 - Check Auto-start with Firefox and check Follow my settings (inline) 4 - Log into LOTW and download your log file. At the moment it is still without extension but this action is necessary to get the extension adi in the log of Content-Type Fixer. 5 - click again on the hammer icon and click on Add/Edit Content Types in the menu 6 - you now see the Log of Recent Requests. Under the header Action Tasks for the extension adi you will then probably see something like this. : C-T: Updated CT header from "application/x-arrl-adif; charset=iso-8859-1" to "application/octet-stream". 7 - Click the Add button, select the input field and type in application/octet-stream and then click the Update Content-Type button. 8 - If you download again, the file should have the extension .adi. You only need to do this once. __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

John, I can understand your frustration. However I disagree that the steps to upload a log to LoTW are many and confusing. There are two steps: 1. LoTW | Export to LoTW using DX4WIN 2. Sign and upload log using TQSL (signing is now integrated with uploading) I used to monitor another popular logging reflector. That program integrates the LoTW upload into the program. Would you like to guess what half the list traffic consists of? That's right, why didn't my upload to LoTW work. The DX4WIN reflector would quickly degenerate into the same. By keeping the export and upload separate, it's easier to pinpoint where the problem is. If the problem is with DX4WIN, then this is the reflector to ask. However, if the problem is with LotW, then *that* becomes the reflector to ask. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, jjreis...@alum.mit.edu, http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Art, your an amazing fellow also. You would change that pic which has been on your website for 20 years and because of me you took it off! Are you thinned skin or what? I don't care to check out your new one. Like you I paid my $89 for DX4WIN and another $50 bucks for two additional versions over the years. You like your program and I like mine. You are happy with your present setup and I like to see some things improved to which I am willing to pay another $25 for another revision. That is your choice not to do that. So what's the problem? Guys like you, Zoran, Bob come out of the woodwork whenever persons like myself suggest some improvements and then demand what improvements we had in mind so you can then pick it to pieces and ridicule. We know your game. You guys are the Reflector Terrorists!! LOL. Look Art. I want to see continued improvements and want DX4WIN to continue to develop. But you and Bob need to spend some time at the local Senior Citizens Center and play some cards with these folks and work a day or two dispensing out food for the homeless rather than asking N4DSP for a Santy Claus Christmas Wish List for DX4WIN. Art, Bob, and Zoran, what was originally an excellent post addressing the need to end the 4 year lapse in updates to the excellent but stagnated DX4WIN program has been thrown off course by you three. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, jjreis...@alum.mit.edu, http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

It has been some time since the last release. Been a DX4WIN user for Ten Years or more. Are there going to be further versions or has DX4WIN been put on the shelf? Hi, John. I have been using DX4WIN since V2. It has been four-and-a-half years since V8 was released and three years since it was last updated. Last year at this time I told myself I would give Paul one more year to provide us with some meaningful updates or I would move on to an actively-maintained program like DXLAB. Using DX4WIN is second nature to me and the learning curve for a program like DXLAB will be fairly high, but at least DXLAB is moving forward, not stagnating. I downloaded DXLAB last night (as you know it is free) and so the journey begins Thanks for the memories, Paul, and all the support, Jim. I feel I have to express a different view. I have been using DX4Win since V1.6 and now I am using V8.4. There is absolutely nothing I miss in DX4Win. It does everything I need. Most important are the groups as I have logs from over 30 callsigns in the same log. However, I think most users don't know how to use the groups. It takes some manual reading... There seems to be wishes to connect the DX cluster with one click. I don't have problem to click three times. LoTW is also easy - a few clicks and no problems ever. If there are no more updates to the program, I will probably be using this version the rest of my life. Of course your needs might be different. Re: [Dx4win] LOTW and DX4WIN
Why is it and it's not just with this reflector when post's come out like mine expressing dissatisfaction with DX4WIN and expecting and willing to pay for revisions, the DX4WIN Addicts come out stating exactly what Erkki stated? I choose DX4WIN years ago because it was progressive and on the move unlike the contemporary logging programs at that time and in the past 4 years it has gone into exile. Erkki if you like and enjoy the updates from Jim AD1C great. Your a happy camper. I like DX4WIN also but I want my logging program to continue to be one of the best and up to the times. If we use your approach Erkki in regards to computer OS we would all be running Windows 3.5 or even DOS in today's world. You stating you have to express a different view? Well that different view is occuring now for the past 4 years. Nothing. Nothing while we wait patiently for change. Not everyone is content with the status quo. Some of the DX4WIN user's I know have moved onto DXLAB because of the status quo and have not looked back. Don't see any change coming from Paul. Only country, node, and other file updates. Thank God for Jim because if not for his dedication this DX4WIN would have gone the way of the dinosaur by now. Once again if Paul doesn't want to do some revisions then sell the company to someone who would love to. Regards, john/n4dsp john. Re: [Dx4win] LOTW and DX4WIN
Constructive criticism is good, snarky comments are not helpful. A wish list of new features and/or improvements would be much better than empty complaints. The support provided by Jim AD1C has been beyond excellent. I have had no problem whatsoever with getting thousands of QSOs into LoTW and eQSL - export them to a file, convert it in TQSL and send it to LoTW. It's a piece of cake. Sure, there are a few kinks in DX4WIN, but nothing I can't live with. Overall, I think it's a fabulous program. Re: [Dx4win] LOTW and DX4WIN
And for you Bob, K8BL: It has been some time since the last release. Been a DX4WIN user for Ten Years or more. Are there going to be further versions or has DX4WIN been put on the shelf? Is the architecture or platform so old that it's too difficult to continue? Should we continue to patiently wait or learning another logging program which has more to offer. For starters the steps one has to take to upload a log to LOTW is many and confusing. This is well known. I downloaded and installed DXLAB. With two mouse clicks my log is uploaded to LOTW. It's amazing. Why can we not have the same with DX4WIN? DX4WIN is still my logging program. If time constraints are the problem for DX4WIN updates perhaps it's time to sell the company and allow someone to further develop this great classic dx logging program. john/n4dsp On 1/5/2014 12:23 AM, R.T.Liddy wrote: Constructive criticism is good, snarky comments are not helpful. [Dx4win] LOTW and DX4WIN Mismatches
I finally have ran the LOTW/DX4WIN credit compare (great program, thanks Jim). I have nearly 200 mismatches. Before I go through all of them, I want to check with all of your collective wisdom. All but 2 are band specific errors. Looking at the first couple, it looks like this might be an issue of the old DXCC (paper) conversion to new DXCC (LOTW). On paper, bands were not tracked, only country and mode. Therefore I think I have DX4WIN band credit for QSLs sent to ARRL that only had say CW credited (and maybe mixed). Does that sound about right? Any way to correct without sending all in again? I forget everything that went on during the conversion. I don't think there was any easy (free) way to get credit for cards already submitted. I guess I will have to go through all of the list and remove the C in DX4WIN for the band. Does that sound about right? Thanks. Today, if you submit a card for MODE credit only, ARRL will credit you with the band automatically (assuming you didn't have that band credit before). It looks like you are going have to uncheck these in DX4WIN, and submit them again. It's going to be hard to get free credit if they have no record of which band the QSOs were made on. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, jjreis...@alum.mit.edu, http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Dx4win] LOTW and DX4WIN - Making Confirmed a Star
Are you sure you want to do this? You don't automatically get credit for ARRL awards on LoTW. You must make an award application to have the LoTW QSLs credited to your DXCC, VUCC, Challenge or WAS award. If you set all LoTW QSLs to credited status your DX4WIN stats will never reflect your ARRL award status. If you choose to do a submission out of DX4WIN, it won't find any eligible LoTW QSLs to apply. 73... Randy, W8FN On 07/04/2011 11:24, Byron Peebles wrote: What obvious thing am I missing? [Dx4win] LoTW from DX4WIN(6.02)
hI, There appears to be a serious misconception of the way that ARRL intended Logbook of the World to be used. This misconception is enhanced by the availability of the buttons in DX4WIN enabling the user to select a particular contracts for confirmation. The concept of LoTW is that the complete logs of stations are stored in the database. This then permits any amateur to have his log checked to for confirmations and these confirmations made available for him to use in ARRL award, and in the future, other awards. The one-sided approach of only submitting the contact that the user of DX4WIN requires will defeat the whole object of the ARRL program. In my case, I was very pleasantly surprised to find over a dozen rare DX Confirmations from years ago; confirmations that I had directly QSLed with green stamps or via a manager without receiving a card in return. Also, on 6 metres, I found a number of squares I did not know I had worked and as a result of information from LOTW, my total towards a 5BWAS has increased by 13 states. LoTW keeps a record of the submissions that you have made to the wed site. As time goes by and the more contracts are added to your log, you only need to submit the new contracts. This is done easily in DX4WIN (Version 6.02) by using Filter and entering start Date of the next submission to LoTW followed by ' enter.' The above action filters every contact from that date to the end of the log. Now click Window/Logbook. What now appears in the window is this selection from your chosen start date. To save this selection to an ADIF file for submission to LoTW, go to the DX4WIN startup window probably in the top left corner of your screen and click File then Export. This opens up the Import/Export Filters Window. The cursor will be in the ADIF exchange format selection. This is what you want, don't move it. In this same Import/Export Filters window, click File/Export This opens the familiar Save directory. The first time you do this, it is worth deciding where you are going to store your LoTW Uploads and, possibly creating another folder for LoTW Downloads. The files can be saved in the DX4WIN Save directory but my Save directory gets congested so I separate them. To create the ADIF file ready for signing by LoTW TQSL and submitting to LoTW, the file name must be YOUR CALLSIGN.ADI. Incidentally, the Report of your confirmations that you download from LoTW is in .HTML format. To convert to ADIF, open the file in a Text only Word Processor, e.g. Wordpad and then save it as a .TXT file then rename it to an .ADI file. To see what goodies you collected, create a new logbook and import the ADIF file into it. You can then examine the results using Report/DXCC/Listing/OK and comparing it with one from your complete logbook. I recommend printing the charts and comparing printouts. I get lost on the screen.
