Re: [Dx4win] Packet Filtering

2017-10-14 Thread John Warburton G4IRN

Thanks for the off-reflector replies to this query.

I have come to the conclusion that I cannot do what I want to do. The DX
Alerts parameter relates to voice alerts and the 'ignore grey and black
spots' simply ignores P8 and P9 spots. Indeed, if you change the colour
of these, they are still ignored!  So at best, it is badly labelled.

It would be nice to filter out unwanted spots though!

2017-10-13 Thread Dan Violette
Don't see a reply yet. I am not the best to answer since I let everything
through, but some things I do know:

DX Alerts are the audible notices. This allows you to specify what you want
announced (voice, alarm, etc,)
Ignore Gray/Black I think is the highest level you can go to block.

I do not think this would work, but, have you tried setting the color for
the items you do not want to see to black? Maybe you only want level 1, 2,
3 then set 4+ to black (or gray). Pay careful attention to what each level
does. I think there is some overlap. I want new bands and modes for each
DXCC and level 6 is more important to me than 4 & 5. I pay attention to all
background highlighted spots. That is if I have kept the default spot
colors where levels 1, 2, 3 & 6 are highlighted. I may have done that
myself (forget since have had Ver 8 since it first came out years ago).

Unfortunately, everything else that is grayed out (like
friends you have QSO's before) will be grayed out as
well.

I would love to see the packet spot filtering match the
preferences - that is, if I choose not to work 6m or
RTTY, then those spots would never show up at all.

The concept of still showing spots for people I have
already worked, but in a different color, is an
excellent one.

[Dx4win] Packet Filtering

2001-12-31 Thread Barry
Doug,
It would be better if you filter it at the transmitting end (i.e., the node)
rather than at your end.
If you are connected to an AK1A Packet Cluster node do this:
set/filter/band=(6,2) all
This will filter all the 6 and 2 meter spots, so you won't see them, and
you'll cut down on RF traffic on the node frequency by eliminating them.

If you are using an AR-Custer node, take a look at:
http://www.k8smc.com/ArcUserManual.htm
and read the section on filtering. It's much more flexible and has many
more options than AK1A's software.

If you are using Telnet, other than 'unchecking' the band in Preferences seems
to me the only way to keep the "Talker" from announcing ...but the spots are
there in Grey. If you are using 'real' packet, depending on the system's
software, you can use the FILTER command.

Hi Doug,

There are two ways for that:

1. Go to preferences and set ignore gray spots in the packet1 tab;
2. Set the filter in your local cluster.

In your Station preferences, turn off 6 meters, the spots will at least be
grayed out.

Even better is to set up a filter on your packet node to deny the 6m spots
from coming through - your SYSOP should be able to help if HELP SET/FILTER
is insufficient.

Not sure about DX4WIN filtering but if you are using a node which uses the

you can set your own filters to not get the 6 meter spots.
