[Dx4win] Thanks
Would like to say thank you to all the people who have responded to my questions and have helped me with DX4WIN as I will be leaving the group. I have been a user since the beginning switching from DXBase. Well I have switched again. I have given up hope that DX4WIN will ever catch up to the state of the art software that is out there. I did the 30 day trial with HRD 6.2 and was very impressed. The program starts up, controls my K3, connects me to my favorite cluster, automatically sends my contacts to eQSL and LoTW is only one keystroke to upload or downloadplus too much to list... A special thanks to Jim AD1C for all his work and help with DX4WIN, probably would have left long ago if not for him. 73 Tex KA5Y __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] THANKS JIM
I had a problem with DX4W805. I could not open the full program. All I could get was the entry window and nothing else. When you think you might have lost over 65K calls in a log, you panic. I emailed Jim, AD1C, and he sent me 3 suggestions. The first 2 did not resolved the problem. I finally did as Jim said and uninstalled the program and then downloaded a new 805 file an installed it. All is working ok now. All it took was 3 emails to/from Jim and I am back to normal again. I think Jim is a prime example of amateur radio. He is always willing to help anyone who asks him for help. He did not make me wait several days to answer my first email, but answered in less than 2 hours. The other 2 emails were also replied to quickly. My 38 years as a ham, I have always been able to get help when needed. My thanks to Jim and all he does for the amateur community and for his efforts with DX4WIN. I've just gone through my entire log file and have ~2500 QSOs tagged for QSLing (all via the bureau). If I can put 5 QSOs on one card, I'll need to print ~1500 cards. Unfortunately, I have only 1000 cards left. My thought is to print out 600 or so cards and send them out via the outgoing bureau. The remaining would go via Global QSL. My problems are two-fold: 1. How I set DX4Win to print only the first 500 cards? 2. Global QSL wants the data in the ADIF format. How do I export the remaining data into ADIF? ... or am I asking for trouble? Should I just bite the bullet and do it all through GlobalQSL or get more cards and print them all locally? After proper training and receiving more light on the subject I have found that the proper way to enter the frequency is by putting in the following: Xx,xxx.xx noting that the separation is a comma on the junction between the Mhz and the Khz. Well I don't think the delay value is important to the DX4WIN program as long as it is not set to Zero, as for its purpose to address hot switching issues each radio is different so you need to figure that out for your setup. One thing I need to make clear I only have one digi mode running at a time. If I am doing CW I have the CW keyboard open, no PSK31 or RTTY window open. When I want to do RTTY I close the CW keyboard and open MTTY window. Same for PSK31 no CW keyboard no MTTY window open when running PSK31. I only have one radio, one receiver, one transmitter can't do more than one thing at a time. If for some perverse reason you want to do these things at the same time then I think you are going to need one heck of a lot more options on different com ports to get around all the conflicts. For me as far as this issue is concerned DX4WIN is working as it should. Now if only a new version would come out to fix all the other bugs in 7.01 especially the one about the DX spots controlling real time log entry band mode I would be a happy camper again. 73 John ZL1BYZ. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, 7 March 2006 11:00 p.m. To: John Shaw Subject: RE: [Dx4win] Thanks but no success John Said, Anyway I was getting the same error as you, couldn't figure it out till just recently I read in the help files under PTT delay A zero value indicates that PTT keying is not used. Sure enough mine was set at zero, changed that and bingo now it all works fine. What did you change the value of the delay to, so you got it to work with all 3 modes? I have RTTY and PSK31 working now but if I try CW out the same com port then RTTY stops working but CW works. MY setup is: Omni VI+ Set to RTS high in DX4WIN 7.01 setup parameters MMTTY Main software is on COM 7 an works fine as a stand alone program. Also Writelog works very well w/MMTTY plugin on com 7. DX4WIN Setup RTTY set for PTT control w/ RTS PSK31 set for com 7 RTS ( Won't key if set to PTT control) CW set for none RTTY and PSK31 work fine in DX4WIN with this configuration. If I set CW for com7 delay 3 PTT DTR CW keying to RTS, CW works fine but NO RTTY or PSK31 keying. Thanks for all your comments and help on the reflector. I must have something set wrong. I would like to have all 3 modes like you have. 73, Wayne N2WK

Hi Lance, No expert here and none of the other replies were to the reflector so I don't know if I am repeating something already said. I was getting the same message as you, although my setup is simpler than yours. Only using one com port no rig control and spots done by telnet. Anyway I was getting the same error as you, couldn't figure it out till just recently I read in the help files under PTT delay A zero value indicates that PTT keying is not used. Sure enough mine was set at zero, changed that and bingo now it all works fine. So now with one com port with some PTT delay I have CW keying on DTR, PTT control on RTS. Now I tell MTTY PTT is on PTT control same for PSK31 and CW keying. No more error messages just close one mode and open another bingo. Hope that helps. 73 John ZL1BYZ. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Lance Sent: Tuesday, 7 March 2006 10:06 a.m. To: Dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Thanks but no success Thanks to all who replied to my original email. My thanks for all of you who replied to my question about uninstalling DX4WIN. A couple of you asked me why I would want to do this. Answer: I have had big problems with the computer crashing at least 10 times a day, even on startup. We isolated the major part of the problem to my Outlook Express and Internet Explorer program. It was corrupted. A new HD was loaded with everthing but my program files ( DX4WIN, RTTY etc.) and tested before putting it into my computer. When we put all my programs back, the only time it crashed was in DX4WIN. We assumed it was the DX4WIN program. I really did not want to risk the uninstall / reinstall thing. In a moment of brilliance, I put in another 128 megs of RAM to give me a total of 256 megs of RAM. You guessed it, all my crashing problems went away. The computer works much faster and it has not crashed for 3 days. DX4WIN was not the problem after all. Now I can concentrate on my slice and my putting.
