Re: [Dx4win] USB to parallel port connector
> Will USB to parallel port adapter work??? To the best of my knowledge *none* of the logging programs support CW/PTT on a USB to *parallel port adapter*. The USB printer cables typically use a special device driver to emulate a windows print system and do not provide direct port access required by the LPT CW/PTT drivers in the logging programs. You can use a USB to *serial* cable with CW on DTR and PTT on RTS driving a pair of resistor/transistor circuits - but that is quite different than the USB to parallel printer cables and using LPT#. 73, ... Bernie, There are many USB to parallel cables on eBay. Most of them work OK. HOWEVER: with most laptops some printers have problem printing as the laptop USB current is not sufficient. SOLUTION: use externally powered USB hub between laptop USB port and the USB/parallel cable. Concerning DX4WIN version you can check it y clicking on Help/About on top of DX4WIN. Re: [Dx4win] USB to parallel port
Yes, I stand corrected concerning the USB-to-Parallel vs. USB-to-Serial mix-up. And yes the converters the RIGBlaster people sell are the Prolific chipset which did not work for me for even something as simple as having the PC read the rigs frequency with N1MM or WRITELOG. I was also told at Visalia not to try the Prolific chipset with HRD. Re: [Dx4win] USB to parallel port
Hello Dick, Try Google 'usb serial adapter with ftdi chip' and see what pops up in your area. There are several at a variety of prices - others may have suggestions with which they have had success. Was not using mine (unbranded from a UK source but supposed to be FTDI) for DX4 but it hit a snag after a windows update for Vista messed up the driver. Had same with the much maligned Prolific. [Dx4win] USB to parallel port
Pete is 100% correct -- USB to parallel port converters will NOT work for keying CW. I bought two of them before someone explained that to me. I wasted my money. Don’t waste yours! I built a USB Winkeyer kit from K1EL. Works great!
