Roy, do you know if Dimension 4 runs OK on Windows XP? I am running it
FB on my W-98 desktops, but I get an error message when I run it on my
laptop with XP. The Website only refers to W95 and NT as operating systems.

Joe,
Windows XP includes its own, built-in and automatic, time synchronization.
You should not need any additional time synching programs when you are on
XP. To set parameters in XP, double-click on the clock (lower right-hand
corner of the screen) and select the Internet Time tab.

I had the same problem with XP. Some kind of socket error. I would love
to use D4, but it looks like it hasn't been updated for five years or more
and there may be some XP kinks it isn't aware of.

XP has an Internet time function built-in. Use control panel to select
the date and time
module and then use the Internet tab to select a time server.

Larry and Mike, thanks for the info on XP. It came with my relatively
new laptop, and I'm still becoming familiar with its features. I didn't
know about the built-in clock update. will check it out immediately.

Try AboutTime. Don't know if it will work with XP, but well worth a
try.

Mel, you do need it under XP Pro if you want the capability to check
multiple time servers, or if you don't want to install a third party fix
to the WinXP Pro registry to change the 7 day interval for checking.
AboutTime gives more options than XP's built-in time checker.

Well, About Time is still an excellent freebie, though you have to
manually use it, I think:

And while you're there, check out why is the sky dark at night for a
very interesting physics lesson - it's at:
Multiple time servers I agree... The rest 3rd party fix etc. is
nonsense... Those of us that do this sort of thing for a living modify
registry entries all the time... It's kind of like the old Win.ini file
but better organized... The software you are adding is 3rd party

Nope. You can, like most programs, set up About Time to start at boot
up time. Just add it to your startup folder.

And
Larry: Thanks for the heads up on XP time sync! Recently bought a new
Dell 4550 w/XP. I do not use it for Ham stuff; I use my old 98 machine
for Ham stuff, so am still getting familiar with XP and appreciate the
help!
