[Elecraft] All working :-)

Hi all, I finally fixed the problems I was having on the 160m alignment. I could not get 10W no matter how I tried. Thanks go to Don, W3FPR and Bob, G3VVT for their ideas. In the end, I did not seem to be getting any joy when tuning L3 and L4. L4 I could peak but nothing seemed to be happening

Agree that the 60db/6db shape factor is an essential indicator of a filter's selectivity performance. But the filter's rsponse above the 6db points is also very important if you want a good sounding SSB signal, or a Rx's SSB filter that can really dig in a pile-up. If the filter's skirts come up

Glad you found it Ian. That again substantiates the advuse to builders who encounter a problem - check soldering, and then re-check soldering. Then when you have finished, check the soldering!!! Remember, the circuits do work as designed and component failure is rare. 73, Don W3FPR -

Dan, Set the power at 6 watts, then adjust the audio drive so you get 5 watts output. You can also watch the ALC, with the ALC/RF on ALC. It should just begin to flicker on the far right hand side. Press and hold ANT 1/2 and TUNE to read power forward power/reflected power. The display

Most of the issues you address are seen in the sweep. The problem that all the content and implications of the sweep can't be put in a 42 or 45 character item name in a catalog. Where there is a picture in a catalog, the sweep curve would be more meaningful than a picture of the filter itself.

[Elecraft] Parallel line lightning arrestors

In a painfully slow, round-about way, I'm getting a Cebik 44' doublet put up. I'm curious if anyone is familiar with the ICE brand of lightning arrestors (http://www.arraysolutions.com/Products/ice/impulse1.html#2)? I'm familiar with PolyPhaser products, too, but the ICE equipment sounds

Hello again Guy, Fair comment. As far as the commercial issues are concerned I could not agree more. I would add to the wish list the supply of real impedance information especially around the bandpass edge frequencies where the filter's port impedances will gyrate like mad, and not just the

Mike and all, The Wireman www.thewireman.com lists both the ICE balanced line arrestor and their CQ brand. I have used the CQ brand for some time now - it is a simple spark gap type (like the gap on a spark plug - in fact, this arrestor does use 2 spark plugs). You COULD build your own with

I haven't used that arrester but looking at the specs I see that it's designed for an impedance range of 300 to 600 ohms. That is, a typical open wire line working at a low SWR. That is NOT the case with a Cerbik doublet. Your Cerbik doublet will show impedances at various points along the feeders

Mike: I've had an ICE model 309 for just about 9 years now. It's been outside all that time and, other than the label getting faded, it looks as good as new. I have it attached to a 64 ft. doublet with ladder line and have put up to 100 watts through it many times, but not since I finished

RE: [Elecraft] K2 BFO Test: BFO low freq is really low

It looks like the counter is only registering half the frequency and it's really at 4912 kHz. I don't think it's physically possible for the BFO to oscillate down there. Certainly not under crystal control. C22 won't vary your counter time base enough to cause anything like that sort of error.
