You must have had the R-Paks tilted in toward the crystals a bit rather than
vertical.
They are exactly straight up. I may have the crystals shifted a bit, bit no
more than the play of their leads in the pads allow for. They are straight
up as well.

John, Tim and all,
Usual capacitor markings are not really hard to interpret - they are just
like resitor color codes but using numbers instead of colors. They use 3
digits - 2 significant digits followed by a multiplier. The multiplier
tells us how many zeros to add - so 470 would be a 47

I had a faulty connection which caused the poor receive audio after
transmitting. However, I still cannot turn VOX off. I tried HOLD (not
tap) on VOX, but the flashing L continues. Added a PTT switch and it
works fine, but the flashing L continues even after using PTT.

Slater,
Press the VOX button enought times that 'PTT' is shown on the display. The
VOX cycles through several hold times.

Does the K2 jump frquency only at that one spot, or about every 5 kHz across

If the latter, it may be you need to do the CAL PLL routine. I just went

You need to put the two frequencies in the same memory. Put 18068 in VFO
A and 18168 in VFO B.

Desoldering tools need a little practice and technique to work well. The iron

Jeff and all,
For a source of decent audio transformers for low power applications like
that, look at defunct computer modem cards. I have salvaged transformers
from them for computer to audio equipment isolation for some time now -
small and quite inexpensive (i.e. 'cheap', 'free', etc.)
