Hi,
Fired up my K2 Elecraft (#4927) with N1MM Logger program and found out that
it will only work with 1 stopbit (remaining parameters are confirmed).
This is in contrast to both the n1mm manual (use default Kenwood parameters
of 2 stopbits) and the K2 KPA100 manual saying that 2 stop bits
Hello,
The EPA QRP Clubs' TAC Sprint final results are posted.
I am looking at discontinuing the PSK31 and SSB modes for next year's sprint
due to lack of participation.
I am also looking at moving the sprint into the fall or winter months.
Check out www.n3epa.org for the results.

Carel,
I won't be able to check it out here until later today, but I find it
strange to hear that it is not working for you with 2 stop bits. The rules
for asynchronous data transmission is for the stop bit(s) to be at a mark
level, and any idle time is also held at a mark level - so any idle
Mark,
I used the batteries from my boat for field for my K2/100. They are deep
discharge marine/RV batteries, one about 60 AH and the other about 80
AH. I also use an old car battery in the shack which I keep on float at
13.8 volts. Some comments.
The K2 which will work at lower
Tom,
If you can adjust your power supply to 14.0 volts, it should work a little
better. I bought my K2 battery with the K2 in 1999 (S/N 462), and it still
is as good as new. I also bought a Power Sonic 0.5 amp automatic charger,
and it floats the battery all the time. It charges the
Hi
So are you connecting the 14 volt supply to
The power connector or connecting in some other way (direct to the battery)
Is there an easy way to boost the voltage on
any of the astron power supplies?
I have several and can dedicate one to

You might try DSP. DSP NR helps, but does not help as much as on some
other rigs.

George,
II don't know about the Astron power supplies. You need to remove the
cover and see if there is a screw driver adjustment for voltage. Maybe
someone on the reflector knows; this was discussed a few years ago. I
currently am using a RS 6 amp PS to float the old car battery at 13.8

Does anyone know what causes this one. I have just about every option
installed including the KPA100. Would like to get rid of it if possible (S5 on
the
meter with a 1KHz tone).
Thanks,

Hi Don (both Don's w3fpr and n4hh)
Thanks for the reply, I have checked it again and it seems to be intermitted
(sometimes only one stopbit works, on other occasions also 2 is
working...). Strange behaviour, I will first check with some other HW/PC as

I'm using a RS-20A and it also has a pot adjustment.

I would think most of the Astrons are like this. (there I go thinking
again!)

Michael,
My K2 has a birdie a few kHz higher which is caused by one of the receiver's
spurious responses hearing the second harmonic of the KPA's HV bias
oscillator, which in my KPA100 runs at 16.289 MHz. In my case the bias
oscillator's harmonic gets to the receiver via the loudspeaker cable

The (-) voltage generator (oscillator) in both the KIO2 or KPA100
generates a couple of weak birdies. They will move around a bit from K2
to K2, because the birdies are the result of high harmonics of this
crystal oscillator mixing with high harmonics of the K2's VCO, and the

Any chance you could use some form of receiving loop?
You could orient it with its null toward the highest noise intensity
in your location.

Dear all,
I am the proud owner of K1 serial #2002. I just got it going at the
first of the week. My 1st kit was a Globe Scout 680A in the summer of
1959 at age 15. For the first time in many years I have that ole
feeling again.
The K1 is a superior transceiver, with EXCELLENT technical support,

Hi Wayne,
Many thanks. Believe me I understand the design problem!! I got rid of my
birdie the 'hard way' by removing the loudspeaker circuit from the KPA100's
PCB and hardwiring all the way from the K2's PCB speaker connector to the
speaker, and clipping a ferrite sleeve onto the ribbon
