I have an opportunity to purchase a second K2, serial number 008xx. It has the

suggested to bring it up to at least the S/N 4500 performance?
Any suggestions are appreciated

I have two of the Sigma 5s here in CX land. They are extremely easy to

Another consideration is the current drawn by the DSP unit, if you
intend to operate your K2 from the internal battery option a fully
loaded K2 (including DSP) can approach 350 mA.
If the current band conditions don't require the use of the DSP, it can

I'll chime in with my 2 cents...
I operate 99.9% CW. I bought the KAF2 before the KDSP2 was released. I
originally wanted the KAF2 for both the clock feature and the audio filter

K2/QRP). Now I seldom use either the clock

I suggest you download the K2ATOB instructions and look at the list of
changes shown there - there are several 'optional' parts that IMHO should be
included as part of the task. In addition to the A to B changes, add the

Thanks to everyone who provided their input about this band.
Lots of interesting information.

Hi, Ron.
See you on 10 when it opens!
It's open most days at the moment afternoon. For the past week I've
scanned the beacon
segment around 12pm and I am consistently hearing beacons across the
continental US
from a receiver in London Ontario Canada. Some slow QSB but these

Keith,
I have been using the Force 12, Sigma 5 for 10 - 20m including WARC with
success. The Reno QRP Group used it for the 7th QSO Party. We logged QRP
contacts from CA to ME.
The antenna is a vertical dipole with a matching network at the feed point.
It is only 9' tall and a base

Keith,
Also, look in the elecraft web site; go to email discussion list; then to
antenna topics; then down to Force 12 Sigma 5 for past posts.

Where most all of the K2 current operating parameters are plainly displayed.
Making it much easier to use the K2. Such as being able to see at a

Hi!
Just read the chapter on Satellite Communications in the new ARRL
Handbook. Anyone care to share experience with Elecraft gear and
satellites? Or, is there a web page for Satellite Communications
with K2 and transverters, etc.?
Thanks!

I've had one for a couple of years. Right now, ever since Katrina, its been
my only HF antenna. Mine is mounted on an old push up pole about 18 ft.
above ground.
I'm well satisfied with it.
If I ever have some more trees grow high enough to put up some wires, I'll
probably do that.
