Probably of more consequence in the powered speakers is that they all are
targeted at music use on PC's. They are in tiny enclosures and have a huge
bass pre-emphasis to keep them from sounding tinny. The pre-emphasis
will increase with increasingly lower frequency, likely meaning that

Have to vote for Don's article on his web page. Did it that way and got
the splendid results right off, first time. Huge help. Many thanks, Don.

maximum results to start with. I wasn't comparing the K2 after DSP to the

One question I have about the choice between the KAF2 and KDSP2 is what
about having neither.
How would one describe the receiver/filter capabilities of the bare K2?
John neither is a valid response for some situations...it all depends on
your operating modes.
I deleted the .app and .zip and downloaded a fresh copy. Same result.

Move the pointer and click on the new signal to answer. The 2.5 is a

Has anybody else done a clean install into Lion?
It should just run, you shouldn't even have to unzip it, it should download

Further to this, I do get a dialog 'Error opening serial port' if I don't have

note that only one response was on the list. Is this the norm? I thought
responses should be made on the list for all to learn from.

Guys,
This rational is bogus. The PSK users have to get used to decoding one
signal at a time with narrow filters if that's what is necessary. To
expect to have 2 or 3 KHz free of strong signals is crazy.
Dealing with this reality puts the burden on the receiving end. No way

I operate mostly CW using a K2/10 with neither option, can't imagine that
these would provide improved capability worth the added cost/complexity.
Had considered the KAF2 before constructing the K2 but after completion and
operation with the basic rig, decided to install a KSB2 instead.
I've done a clean install for the KX3 utility on Lion and had no issues with
it. I'm not sure how much difference there is.

Absolutely! It's selfish to come to *any* forum, ask for help and

In my opinion the KAF2 is essential. The always in-line low pass filter
significantly reduces the high frequency audio hiss and makes SSB in
particular much nicer to listen to. Assuming that your hearing extends
above 3kHz.
