I have had the SVGA board a couple of weeks now and not had a great
deal of time to play. However, I do notice that (rather like an
earlier P3 firmware version) that my TX trace on CW (QSK) is showing
on the external monitor about a kHz up from my TX frequency (I use

Hello elecrafters,
I fully understand that audio from the internal speaker of KX3 could be
distorted at high level say 30. However, even I plug in an external

30.
Apparently, the audio distortion is not only due

If you are running the output to an external amplifier and running the
output of the KX3 at full volume I would expect distortion from simple
overload (clipping). Try turning the KX3 down and the external amp up.

Yes, I had the same issue. You can reduce it if you go into the menu and set
AGC*THR to 5 (or 4). 4 will totally eliminate the distortion but will reduce
the maximum volume the radio will produce. For me, (I'm going to say it) the
wimpy audio amplifier is a big disappointment. As you have

Gil,
I have not used one, but there is not a lot of difference in
microphones. There are basically 3 types, the Electret microphones
(which need a bias resistor), and there are high output dynamic
microphones (most Kenwood mics are in this class), and thirdly are the
low output microphones
Hello Gil,
I used Icom HM36 with KSB2 before and it worked well. HM12 and HM36 are
electrically the same. For wiring, please follow Don's suggestion.

I believe that is the one I am using. There are no markings but I ordered
direct from Bob Heil. It has the full and DX positions on the mic. I
currently use the HM-ic mic on a desk stand. Audio reports are good after I
set up with some local hams using the xmit equalizer on both mics.
73,
Bill,
Sorry, but Heil did not sell the HM-12, that is a microphone only
available from Icom.
Bob Heil likely sold one of his microphones with an Icom adapter (yes,
he did offer electret microphones while complaining about Icom's - and
the Elecraft K2 - lack of adequate microphone gain).
73,
Gil,
This does require mic bias. The manual will help you set the bias. Good
luck.

Hi Randy,
It sounds like you need to do a transmitter gain calibration. See page
49 in the manual in the Calibration section.
The procedure in the manual will work fine but the K3 Utility automates
the process to the point of being fool-proof.
