Hello all.
Yesterday I noticed a tx fault on my K2 in LSB. When set to 15W, between pauses
in speech, the RF rose to 5W and made sort of grinding noises when heard on a
receiver. Talking reduced it, but in speech pauses it built up again over a
couple of seconds.
SSBA set to 1 and SSBC 2-1,
Hi,
Yes, the power supply is overkill but I don't have anything between tiny and
noisy walwarts and that size. The power supply was evicted from the shack
anyway because of the fan noise (acoustic, electrically that PS is very
quiet), so it was just sitting there anyway. No other gadgets not
Hi Rick,
The feature to save and restore keyboard messages and macros is already
implemented in the current version of firmware (1.26/1.16) Located in the
SVGA sub-menu are Usav and Urst which save and restore the

Thanks Paul,

I have been using the following work around for this discrepancy.
I calibrated the K3's S-Meter using the XG3.
I also calibrated the P3 using the XG3 and found the same problem you see.
I have reset the P3's Lvl Cal to show the same S-meter readings as the K3
*WHEN* the P3 is in [PEAK] mode.
Thanks Kurt, Nice photos!
Could you please take a moment and tell us folks on the Reflector a bit about

Hi,
Sure, the wireless connection is using a Lantronix WiFi serial server. I
think they have only model, but I don't have the model number in my head.
I'll look it up when I get home. It supports two serial ports as you can see
in the pictures. Note that the serial connection over the Lantronix
Ian,
That smells of an intermittent carrier balance pot on the KSB2 board.
When you rotated it, it started working, I suspect it has nothing to do
with the LSB/USB selection, but simply 'went right' when you changed
sidebands.
You might want to obtain a replacement just in case it happens
Good points, all. Thanks Alan.

Is there any chance we could also get a command to determine whether Morse
transmission is active?

I'm just getting going on 6m with my K3/KPA500/KAT500. I'm getting ready to
order a M2 6M5XHP. My feedline consists of 150ft of LDF5-50 to the tower

feedline losses should be relatively low.
Based on various threads I've
Sounds good! I would suggest ordering the largest 6m yagi you can fit on your

very well on multi Es from your prime location there on the East Coast! I hope you
can get it all running next month so you are
I've been having a weird problem with my KX3. No matter what voltage I plug
into the external power jack, the display will briefly show the correct voltage
and then it will show 10.4V. I've measured the voltage at the barrel tip on
the cord and it's either 12.9V (if on a gel cell) or 14.4V if
Is there any possibility that the coaxial DC connector is the wrong size for
your KX3? I have had trouble mixing 2.5 and 2.1 mm connectors in my

Are you using the power connector supplied with the KX3 or some other?
It sounds as if the power supply is being disconnected and you are
seeing the typical voltage from the internal NiMH batteries.
If you are not using the power cable supplied with the KX3, check to be

Sounds like a good outcome: no repair required. I confess to having made

Hi Jim -
You are well on your way to 6m success with the K3/KPA500/KAT500/PR6 line
up. However, there is one more issue you will need to address in your
cabling system. The K3's Digout1 signal is asserted on the PIN 11 of the
AUX cable. That presents a conflict with the KPA500 INHIBIT on PIN
I believe the Key line interrupter interrupts pin 10 rather than pin 11
after reviewing the K3 and KPA manual. I don't use the Pin 11 option on the
KPA (it's disabled) rather use the keyline interrupter and RCA jack cabling
to interface all the keying interruption which includes my antenna switch.
K4RX's inhibit line inhibiter for pin 11 is the same idea as the keyline
inhibiter for pin 10. However, it is not really needed because one can set the
KPA500 INHIB IN menu to DISABLE so a low on pin 11 will not inhibit the amp
accomplishing the same thing as pulling pin 11 from the connector.
Ahh, looking back at my notes I see the other solution would be to make the
KPA500 INHIBIT IN be per/band. But you would still have to take care of not
turning on the PR6 when DIGOUT1 is low with some external logic if you cared
about that.

I'm not getting the importance of a Pin 11 solution. I just disable the
KPA500 sensing of that pin by the menu selection. I don't see the need for
it.
I'm definitely running the KPA500 on 6m.
If for some strange reason Pin 11 is asserted it just causes the KPA500 to
be inhibited, not turned on,

Hi Jim,
What I'd like to be able to do is to disable the amp on some bands (e.g. 30 m),
by asserting (low) DIGOUT1 (and setting KPA500 INHIB IN to ENABLE) but to have
the amp enabled for 6m when DIGOUT1 is low to turn on the PR6. I'm just lazy,
that's all. Plus it's fun to think about!
Cheers,

Keith,
Your KX3 has a built in low voltage warning -- you can set it to 11.5 volts
or so and simply turn the rig off once you see the warning. At that
voltage you will still have about 10% battery capacity left (assuming you
are talking about a LiFePO4 battery.

The reason you are not supposed to do this is that the third harmonic of the BFO is picked
up and amplified, producing a spurious output just above the high end of 20m (I've
forgotten the exact frequency). I don't know about problems on other bands. I recall that
