Hi,
after carrying out on air tests with several K3-100s I found that a PSK signal
becomes unacceptably wide over about 48 Watts out (indicated on the K3 meter
and/or a power meter).
80 Watts out would not get you any friends on a crowded band.
Similarly, the internal 10 Watt amp starts to

Basically, the limiting factor is the quality of the two internet

Thank you for sharing your findings .
I find on my K2/10 5 watts is good. On K2/100 and K3 25 watts is good. My

Chuck,
You must set the rig's sidetone to zero to keep from driving yourself
crazy. This is possible with virtually any rig (at least any modern rig

Good afternoon all , I have K3 #2802 that has lost all RF output. One day
it was fine and the next nothing. Receive is OK.
When rotating the power knob I hear the click at 12 watts. I have heard
possible dirty contact issues between the high power module and its
contacts could cause the problem.
Are you sure its not in test mode?

Chuck, you are quite right about #1. It should say KAT500. We'll fix that.
(Sometimes I slip and fall into the alphabet soup.)
The amp is in standby when the KAT500 does a TUNE operation for any reason.
That's what the KEY line does to automate the power control. It disables the
amp while the SWR

Yes, the KAT500 is supplied configured for an amplifier other than the
KPA500 rather than the KPA500 coming configured... I'll mention this to our
manual author.
The antenna tuner does its tuning with exciter (K3) power. The KAT500 has a
relay that interrupts the amplifier's keying line. If
Good, I thought it had to be this way, but am easily confused. I looked at
the manual again and specifically noticed this statement:
*Clicking on Optimize for the KPA500 automatically selects that setting.*
which does make it even clearer. Having the default at 29 watts is quite
reasonable.
Mitch is an expert. Heed his advice. I'm just a user, bumbling my way
through my first weeks with RemoteRig and a pair of K3s. Here is what I've
found:
