You did not show any of the prior information (one of the problems with posts from Nabble), so I can only guess that you are working with a power supply problem. A situation like that is often caused by something loose in the negative side of the supply, something that is frequently overlooked.

Sounds like you could be tripping the over voltage protection. When there is no other fault the current limiting built into the supply folds the current back so that it does not blow the fuse. You can disconnect the wire going to the scr that is the OV clamp and see if it's ok. You can then

Gary, One thing to check is the tightness of the screws for the supply output terminals. If one or both are loose, I recommend removing them completely and cleaning the contact points on the inside of the power supply. Tighten everything else up too while you are at it. You don't have to

Hi Jim, A couple of thoughts I have a Kill A Watt meter for measuring line power consumption and discovered it is VERY inaccurate at the low end of its range. I was measuring an unloaded DC linear supply and at values of a few mA it was high by a factor of 10 (!) compared to a Fluke 87V.

I have had the board off a couple of times to reseat and then to change out the voltage reg IC and to adjust the trimmer. I have done a visual inspection but will check that all hardware is securely fastened. May have to invest in another assembled board if nothing else works. Thank you all

I too have found that setting the KPA500 fan control for a slightly higher speed all the time means that I don't have a big thermal buildup that causes the fan to kick into high momentarily. Once I made that adjustment the fan hardly ever goes above the middle setting. 73, Bob, WB4SON
