I installed a new K-Pod on my primary station just before undertaking a
serious effort in Sweepstakes CW. This addition to the station proved to
be extremely useful.
In a CW contest like SS there are always quite a few people who have
trouble calling on frequency, especially the casual
If you have the battery charger / RTC, it would reduce the current drain
by a tiny amount (think uA). But .. it is likely that battery
self-discharge is taking more charge from the batteries than the RTC.

Taking the batteries in and out of the radio between portable operations is a
pain. Can I take out just one in the string? That would eliminate any current
drain. Are there other considerations? Doug K6JEY

If you're handy with a soldering iron, these FTDI USB to RS-232 "wire end"
cables work well:

The cable is a USB plug / converter at one end and "bare wires" at the other
end. You will need to solder on a
Mike I totally agree with this assessment. As you know I have a remote contest
site. As you are probably aware the systems in a remote site can go long
periods with no problems, but usually if all the telemetry looks ok there are
various other factors that may require eyes on check. Most of

doesn't mean they're idle. Natural events such as lightning, icing of the

Since there didn't seem to be any interest in the DP-1 here, it's now
listed on eBay.

We use only these in our professional world as they also Com Retention.
Which means that once you set the com port number, it will never change
regardless of which USB port you plug it into.
I have been using this adapter with my K3, Windows 10 and N1MM+ as well as Ham
Radio Deluxe.

Perhaps outdoors you have had a ground go bad, or a connector go bad, to
all of a sudden have RF in the shack. Connection work loose, that kind of
thing. These could happen without your seeing SWR on the line you are
transmitting on.

Page 18 of the KPA500 manual contains a table with the connections you need to
make (and the pins you shouldn’t connect).
If you see conflicts with the DIGOUT1 causing the KPA500 to be disabled you may
wish to remove the pin 11 connection.

I am wiring a new cable for THE KPA500 FOR THE K3S

I am not using pin10 keying the kpa with an rca cable
I am not using pin 15... ALC
I would like to know if my setting is ok.like this

Thanks Jack for taking the time to reply.
No faults are shown on the GUI. There is no connection to Pin 8 of the Aux
connector either.
I will try to pull a dump tonight when I get home. I will also do a trap
on the serial line to see if I can capture any data during a failure. That

Mike;
There is no event in the firmware that should cause power down other that
activating the power on/off signal, either through the front panel button or
the AUX/IO signal. Having said this, obviously something is going on.
You don’t report any faults being shown, but that doesn’t mean there
Not an SWR issue. I can see the SWR on the KPA500 and on the external W2.
Both would alarm if the SWR got above got above 3:1.
At least, for the moment, I have eliminated that.
It could be breakdown in an antenna switch, but that would again show up as
something other than the until powering
First thing that comes to mind - high SWR.

I run a remote base with a KPA500. The Amp is a 3 hour drive away.
I can control just about everything remotely without effort. The
installation has been rock solid for years (Flex 6300 / KPA500) and lots
of chokes everwhere.
Last week the unit worked fine. Today the KPA500 appears to shut
Hi all,
sorry to bother. Just want to let you know I am still looking for KAT500.
No luck until now...
Thank you for offers.
