Gary,
The K3 is a super rig. I have a 100 watt version, with 2.8 and 400 hz filters.
I use the rig on PSK and CW. You might not need a 250 hz filter after you see
how well the K3 performs with the 400 hz.
Great rig, great support, stable as can be, love the built in digital features,
and
DC motors? BEt so if they are variable speed.
If so, AC to DC conversion might be part of your source of RFI.

Loved your comment about the old time guy years ago I heard on 40 M who gave
out with the lids and kids business. Brought back memories and a chuckle.
I was just a new ham way back then and suspected this guy was suffering from
hardening of the arteries in his head for making such statements
My DSP board failed 4 months after the kit K3 #818 was assembled.
I had no audio anywhere. The S meter showed almost full scale. The receiver
resting current went from .85 to 1.01 amps. Replacement KIO3 boards did not
cure the problem. Gary at Elecraft suggested it might be the DSP board if
Even though I properly tightened all case screws at assembly time, I noticed
that after using my kit K3 for a few months, many of the case screws were
loose. Probably the thermal expansion and contraction as well as the settling
of the various case pieces into something comfortable for the K3
I always allow plenty of time before I make an evaluation of a product. Most
products look good and appear to be able to do the job. It is only in the real
word of use can one really find out if a product is quality or not.
I have had my K3 carry case by Rose Kopp for 7 months and have used
I don't know to what extent or to what degree the tests of K3 firmware and DSP
upgrades must reach before being released for general use.
However, it is apparent to me with the numerous issues with NR and DSP that
more needs to be done before K3 software products are released for general use.
Does Elecraft cycle on and off and burn in factory built K3's for a number of
hours or do they assemble the units, turn them on, make sure they work, and
ship them out?
Good question.
Any one know the answer?

After reading countless reflector comments about firmware upgrades and
releases, it appears to me that in many instances such so called upgrades are
two steps forward and one in reverse.
You know the drill, fix this problem, add a new feature, and then find that
something that worked in
I am sitting here with K3 #818 with firmware release 1.7X waiting a version of
the K3 firmware to stabilize and be around for longer than a few days before a
new version or new Bata development is released. Sort of like tracking a
moving target that never stops moving. I have noticed the
