Joe, you may be right, but the description of the Revision C mod says, This
modification protects the K3's audio amplifier if either speaker output is
connected to a short circuit or very low impedance load.
Since I've made this mod, I'd like (hope) to know that this protects the audio
amp.
Don, Joe --
Don,
You missed my point. of confusion, Joe said open circuit.
Yep, I do use a stereo plug, thus I have an right channel open circuit when I
connect an external
speaker.
But there seems to be something else that Joe is warning against other than
open circuit. Referring to
Hi Deane - for what it's worth.
I think for most non-critical (non-contest, non-DX) users, the K3
standard 2.7 kHz SSB filter does a good job for CW and SSB modes. The
K3 DSP software allows you to narrow the bandwidth for CW to 500 Hz or
less. The DSP works much better than the Yaesu and
I know you don't want to keep a thread going with a me too, but I'd
like to enter my vote FOR ballistic tuning as implemented by ICOM.

Todd - try the SUB (sub-receiver button). It links the VFOs. This
feature appeared in a software update described as ...
VFO LINKING: Holding the SUB switch links/unlinks the two VFOs. When
linked,
VFO A is the master; turning it moves both VFOs the same amount. VFO

Brian - you asked about modifying the Heil ICM microphone for use with
the K2 so it'scompatible with the Elecraft MH2 microphone.
You need to make changes to the ICM plug. There are only 4 connections
in the plug. You only need to change two of them.
1) The audio on pins 1 and 7 do NOT need
Wayne - good idea. But, only if PTT-KEY is set to enable PTT and/or keying.

I do use the presets (I/II). I would prefer the idea of fixed presets
that get loaded into the working settings.

Speaking of the K3's computer interface - I've noticed that no K3
responses are generated for the following K3 front panel buttons: RIT,
XIT, AGC OFF, DUAL PB, NB, NR and NTCH. Also, the response for XFIL is
always FW. I am using the most recent firmware.
Paul asked, is the old Elecraft/Heil MD2 plug and play with the K3?
Yes, I have an MD2 and it works well with the K3.

I've been playing with the K3 remote control commands. I've enabled the
interface with a AI2; command expecting to see FA responses when I
change the VFO A frequency. I do see the FA responses, however they are
not continuous. As I tune VFO A, there is a delay in the FA response

Here's a configuration that may work. It incorporates a K2 radio
control program running on your Mac and a means to control you Mac via
the Internet from your Windows operating system PCs. (You've got the
audio part figured out.)

Ron - somewhere way back (months ago) there was a comment by one of the
Elecraft folks that the new HM2 has been improved in terms of interior
mechanical construction. From that comment, I inferred that
electrically they are the same.

I just received a K3 cover I ordered from www.compucover.com. They make
covers in custom sizes. Not having my K3 yet, I guessed at the size from
the dimensions in the FAQ. Wish I could confirm that it fits. Their
price was $14.95 plus $12.00 shipping (I thought the shipping was a bit

What is the current shipping status - and - are you shipping assembled

Steve - I believe the answer to your question, Can the Heil GM-4 work
with the 10k hooked up from AF to 5V? is yes. The Heil Icom cables for
the GM microphones have a capacitor that isolates the 5V from the GM
microphone element.
See the description of the Icom setup on the Heil web site -
Thanks for the additional information in the FAQ about microphones.
But I still have a question.
The wiring for the K2 MD-2, MH-2 microphones and the Heil headset has 5V
applied to pin 1 through a 5.6k resistor.
Will the K3 be able to supply 5V on pin 1 through a 5k resistor via a
jumper or
