My understanding is the KAT500 will overcurrent the K3 Aux DC output.
The KAT500 specification is 1.5A max (200 mA typ) from my IB (page 2 Rev B3

Mark,
My understanding from the manual is that the KAT500 must be on when the K3
is turned on for the Aux connection to work properly.
In my shack this is accomplished by connecting the KAT500 directly to the 12
volt buss; that way it is already on when I turn the K3 on. This works well
for me.
I know we don't vote on this reflector; but I would prefer the Default FW
load to be as is now so it matches my manual.
Personally I do not use Link/Unlink!

One part of the learning curve that I discovered is that you must turn on
the K3 before placing the KPA500 in Operate when you first power=up the
station.
On my desk it was just more logical to turn on the KPA first and while I was
there to press Oper. I Then had to figure out why I
I was under the impression that the KAT500's form factor was P3 size.
Since I already have antenna switching the way it needs to be with still
about 30% growth built in, I would prefer the tuner be small enough to
stack onto my P3.
I doubt that could happen if it included a high power RF routing
