[Elecraft] Ultimatic adapter

2008-11-28 Thread Kevin Schmidt
After reading the posts on this list a couple of months ago about the ultimatic keyer mode, I threw together a couple of simple prototypes that go between the paddle and keyer to convert an iambic keyer to ultimatic. Either a pair of quad nor gates or a PIC do the job. A write up and the circuits

Dear Ron, My experience is that all radios depreciate in constant dollars with time. So another way of storage, that is almost certainly more economical, would be to sell your K2. That money plus the interest earned will likely buy a better rig, for example a used K3, when and if you decide to

Dear Koert, It probably isn't the problem, but you might check that the core used for T4 is really an FT50-43. The wrong core might not have enough permeability at the lower frequencies. 73 Kevin w9cf Dear all, Please find my emails to Elecraft support below. Is there maybe somebody with

Re: [Elecraft] SWR Question

2007-04-19 Thread Kevin Schmidt
As long as you back down the power appropriately I think you will be fine. However, your amplifier would work better if you put, for example, a pi network at the input. This will give a low impedance path for the second and higher harmonic energy in the input circuit and improve the efficiency.

[Elecraft] KY; command response

2007-01-23 Thread Kevin Schmidt
I have been trying to use the computer control for my K2/100. I am using the RS232 port on the KPA100. I cannot seem to ever get any response except KY0; to the KY; command. If I send a KY; immediately after KY 123456789012345678901234; while the K2 is still sending the first character, it should

Re: [Elecraft] K2 frequency drift

2006-12-24 Thread Kevin Schmidt
Adam, The K2 PLL Ref Upgrade manual gives some information on typical drift i.e. 5 to 20 Hz per 15 degrees F on 20 meters. It also explains how changing RA on the thermistor board can better compensate for the drift. Since your drift is consistent, I think you should be able to reduce it by

Re: [Elecraft] K2 frequency drift

2006-12-24 Thread Kevin Schmidt
Don, I agree about warm up drift. Perhaps I misunderstood Adam, but I thought that his problem was that even during normal usage he found objectionable drift when he operated his KPA100 for a while. I presume, perhaps wrongly, that this is most likely coming from the PLL since I thought that the

My daughter and I are slowly assembling a KPA100 Rev C. We are at the alignment and installation resistance checks, and the bases of Q1 and Q2 measure 11.4 ohms. The manual gives 12-16 ohms. Looking at the schematic, it seems that the resistance for Q2 base should be the resistance of R9 (10
