For the sake of good reflector relations I'll assume that you are referring
to the voluminous, rousing tones of this ancient instrument and not to an
opinion that the bagpipe often sounds like a screeching cat. :-)

Hi, John-
Thank you for your post, as well as for the use of my service. In rereading
what I had written, I believe that my post might have come with a terseness
that I had not intended, so my apologies as well. K2-T2 is a little tricky

Hi, John-
Since I am the fellow who provides the pre wound toroids, I would like to
offer that I do include a note with my K2 sets instructing the builder not
to pull the leads too tightly while installing K2-T2 . Its design is a
little unusual insofar that the toroid is spaced slightly up off of
Hi, Kevin-
Some of the ferrite cores can be a bit rough around the edges. When I
encounter a batch that exhibits this characteristic, I use a drill-bit to
clean up the burr prior to winding. Pick a drill-bit of a size
substantially larger than the toroid's inner diameter, and spin its tip

Thank you for your kind words, Bob! It is always gratifying hearing from a

Thank you for the nice words, Fred! Some folks like winding 'em and for
whatever reason can't, while others can but prefer not to. Regardless, I
enjoy being helpful and am appreciative for all of the business I see.

Hi, Herb-
First off, welcome to the reflector as well as to amateur radio! You see
troubles posted here because, among other things, this is a forum meant to
field questions of a technical nature. You also see quite a few accolades

Hi, Bob-
I don't know if this applies to your situation, or if it is the best

Hi, Jim-
Th reason for the larger enclosure is that a lot of ops prefer to remote the
KPA100 together with the KAT100-2. This of course requires the larger area
afforded by an EC2 external enclosure which can be purchased separately. The
KAT100-2 kit slips inside the lower part of the EC2

Hi, Brian-
It is fine to allow the secondary windings of KSB2 T1,T2 to nest with their
respective primary windings. In other words, listen to your instincts and
wind them in the same direction. In this instance, the sense of the

Hi, Bob-
The K2 set that you have, with L25, L26 each consisting of 16 turns, is for
K2 kits that have serial numbers below 3000. Did you buy this set from me? I
ask because I keep these older toroid variations in a separate area and only
get them out when it is requested of me by a builder with
Hi!
In my experience, the counterpoise can be a tricky thing. Keep in mind that
minor changes in ground current can lead to substantial swings in antenna
impedance. That translates directly into changes in SWR. For instance, I use
an MFJ Artificial ground to tune a counterpoise for my 85' EFW.
Hi, Bill-
Unless I am mistaken, there is supposedly a schematic available for the
MFJ-931 in Devoldere's Antenna and Techniques for Low-Band DXing.
I have the 931 and use if with my EFW, both in the shack as well as while
portable. It works well for me, plus one cannot have too many gadgets
