Don,
Sorry, but I just got back... I'll send a reply tomorrow, when I can.
I do appreciate the information.

I do a limited amount of travel, but when away from home, I like to be able
to operate my K3 on the ham bands, and sometimes find that it gets a bit
complicated getting things setup to operate.
I’ve tried Ham Radio Deluxe and had mixed success getting connected up

Sorry no one has replied back to you sooner, but I do use a Ben her Padle
with my KX3 and it works great. I am not sure what cable it comes with from
the factory, but the tip and ring are the dot and dash. Can be hooked up
with no problem.

I may modify it to use the BNC connector like you have implemented.
I have some pictures, but not sure where to upload them to.

W3EDP antenna design. Mine is a 2kw core, but you could easily adapt it to
a smaller core.
If I'm not mistaken, you have KX3 SN 687, I have 688...

Thanks, Wayne.
I figured there was some way.
I'm having a great time learning to use the KX3 and all the features. I
especially like the Menu feature of holding the Menu key for 3 seconds to
access the menu help.

Am I missing something?
I'm trying to tune the VFO by 0.1 of KHZ.
Using the KHZ key, or Rate key, I can tune by 1Khz, 0.01 KHZ or 0.001
KHZ (1 HZ).
But I can't find a way to tune by a tenth of a KHZ, like I'm used to on my
K3.

A couple weeks ago, I was on 40 meters with a group of friends, and one of
the guys (likes everyone on frequency ;-) suggested that I was off.
I finally got around to checking the K3 last week and found that it was off
by about 260 Hz from what it should have been. I rechecked the calibration

Wayne,
It sounds like you're having fun with your new toy, putting all the pieces

The PTT line does need to be moved from pin 2 to pin 6 to get the PTT to

Hope this helps anyone else searching for a similar solution.

Wayne,
Thanks for the very prompt reply last week to my query.
So now I have another question concerning roofing filters. Will the KX3 use
the same roofing filter series as the K3?
I added a 2.1 kHz filter in my K3 and found it very effective (after a bit
of learning!). Since then, I've want
I'm trying to get my Icom IC-SM5 mic to work with the K3. I've setup the
"FP:L Bias" on the K3 and there is 4.98 volts on Pin 1 of the K3 mic
connector. No output from the rig at all (varied the pot on the bottom of
the mic and the rig mic gain).
I would think that 5v should be sufficient for th
I'm a bit confused on the specifications of the roofing filters on the KX3.
Will there be a roofing filter that is standard with the KX3, like the K3,
or are you required to buy at least one as an option?
Are the roofing filters in the same format as for the K3, or is it a
different setup?

One of the things that I'd like to see on a rig is a bluetooth headset
connection for the mobile setup. I've tried a Jabra transmitter (from a
phone) and a BlueParrot headset, but had too many problems with the Jabra
transmitter not connecting. The headset has noise canceling and worked

My question is, do you have a 12 volt battery in the circuit with the
charger. Probably not, if the voltage is running at over 15 volts.
Chargers are made to run with a battery connected, which would drop the
voltage to about 14.4 volts while charging, no higher.

I had a similar problem not too long ago with a noise that was drowning out
lots of the 75 meter band. I had the LP-Pan at the time (I have a P3 now).
There is a broadcast station several miles from here and the noise made that
harmonic so much worse!!
Tracked it down to a cheap Macbook laptop
I may have to build a circuit to add some protection.
But I'm not sure where I add it in. I want it in the receive line, but not
in the transmit line. Is there somewhere in the K3 that I can tap off to
limit the input signal?

My next door neighbor is a ham and recently upgraded to a Icom 7700, 200

The antennas for my K3 are pretty close to his. I have a set of dipoles
(160, 75, 60 that share a common feedline) that are about 30 feet off one
leg from the neighbor's HyTower (75 thru 10 full size vertical). I have

One thing that I have a somewhat difficult time with is getting the transmit
and receive equalizers setup. It's a bit cumbersome to setup the equalizers
through the "RX EQ" and "TX EQ" menus on the rig.
I would be very helpful to have the equalizers on the K3 Utility in the form
of a normal PC e
ctrum display, but not the signal
processing from the K3.
Any signals that come through the computer would be internally (to the
computer) generated.
Therefore, if you wanted to use the K3 system filters, you need to go
through the K3 audio output.
Is this true?
