Hi Guys
I have a mate, Ian VK3FFLY, who is into flying radio controlled models
using Li-Po cells and they are very careful about the way they charge
them - always in a metal box (not the radio cabinet!). Several of them
have had fires from charging these cells. Ian suggests you have a look

This is why I eventually decided to use AA NiMH cells instead when replacing
the lead acid battery in my K2.
I use 10 AAs in a pack, this gives me 2.5AH vs ~3AH for a small LiPo pack of
similar mass. The LiPOs are fine but I will keep them outside the case so I
can throw them somewhere if a

Why didn't Elecraft choose NiMH cells for the KBT2 in the first place?
There must have been a reason.
One reason might be self discharge; SLA stay charged longer than NiMH.
There are new longer-life NiMH cells these days, though. And the LiFePO4
and Lithium

Anyway its a nice dream, however this radio would be the best selling

Is there a new Hilberling (besides the canceled PT-8000)?

The K2 is a very mature product, and I don't anticipate adding further
internal modules to it. I've thought about a Li-Ion battery as a
replacement for the present gel-cell, but it's still too expensive and
is thus left as an exercise for the reader.
The P3 should work with the K2, though

I would think that the phase noise limitations of the K2's design would
limit its appeal.
I don't think most people looking at the K2 are that concerned about state
of the art performance. The K2's main qualities are small size, low weight
and low power consumption
Dear elecraft -team,
during the last 2 years all new modules and software updates had been designed
for the K3. Is the K2 out of the focus or is there a chance for all the K2
users to get new modules and upgrades in the future ?
