usabilityI have done to my K3. Trying to hold REV while tuning
in the pileup got old really fast.
I started with a minimum 10W K3 and now have a fairly fully
featured 100W rig. For someone new to HF, it was a good way to go.

In your case there's one RX to receive one frequency at the time.
To monitor two freqs /at the same time/, you will need the Sub RX.

i was under the impression that you could RX on the same band but on VFO
A and VFO B.
ie, to RX the DX QRG and RX the pile up when working split.
this appears not to be so.
do i need to buy the SUB RX board to be able to do this or am
Simon,
Hold the REV button to listen to the VFO B frequency.
You can also swap the VFOs, then swap them back before transmitting, but
if you lose track of which is which in the 'heat of battle', the UP cops
will admonish you.
To listen to both VFOs simultaneously, you need to install the
Can always hook up a SDR RX to the IF OUT socket..

What is the status of any firmware change to allow digital mode per
VFO on the K3?
Not likely due to the synthesizer design.
Meantime are there any workarounds?
You can certainly use AFSK (MMTTY USB) and PSK63 (MMVARI) or 2 x MMVARI
simultaneously in DATA_A - one on each receiver/VFO.
73,
The simplest workaround is to use AFSK. If you are capable of
configuring your equipment so as to generate a clean PSK63 signal, it is
within your ability to use AFSK to create a clean RTTY signal that is
every bit as good as (or better than) an FSK RTTY signal.

It seems the current firmware will not allow me to use FSK on VFO A and PSK63

Jim,
I use SO2V in contests with my K3, both unassisted and assisted. My hot
tip would be to familiarize yourself with the actions of the ` key and
Ctrl+Shift+Up/Down arrow keys in N1MM Logger.
My comments on using SO2V with N1MM Logger are at
Hi, Jim - I do SO2V with my K3 and subRX, with N1MM and RBN spots quite
often. My station is not competitive - single wire, KPA500. So, my
strategies are to maximize my rate and a big part of that is avoiding
calling when louder stations will likely beat me. The rates are pretty
amazing - it is
Great tips, John and Rich! I've used SO2V quite a bit but can't add
anything to what you said, except:
The one thing that would make it PERFECT would be for the P3 to have a VFO

Yes, Igor - good point. You really don't need WinTelnetX anymore unless you
have other streams to consolidate.

I've been looking at the N1MM docs on SO2V wrt the K3. Anyone here contest
in that fashion? FWIW, I'm mostly interested in CW and assisted with RBN
spots.
Any hot tips?
